Zelma Artherholt

Zelma Mae Jordy Artherholt was born on May 15, 1926, in Walker County, Texas, to Henry and Doshie Jordy. Zelma passed away on December 29, 2011 in Conroe, Texas. She was 85 years old. Zelma is preceded in death by her husband, Edd Artherholt; parents; brother, Henry E. “Jack” Jordy Jr.; and son-in-law, John B. Koehl. She is survived by her three children; daughter, Nancy Koehl of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, son, David Artherholt and wife Julie of Huntsville, Texas and son Edd Artherholt Jr. and wife Terry of Huntsville, Texas; three grandchildren, granddaughters Susan “Suzi” Guerra and husband Jay of Conroe, Texas, and Dana McAdams and husband Cole of Huntsville, Texas, and grandson Wesley Koehl and wife Rebecca of Austin, Texas; five great grandchildren, great grandsons Hayden Benson, Ian and Evan Guerra and great granddaughters Kaitlyn and Landyn Guerra, all of Conroe, Texas; five special honorary grandchildren, Brandi, Stephanie and Cody O’Bannon and Jesse and Abigail Shelley. She is also survived by a host of special friends, nieces and nephews. Zelma graduated from Huntsville High School in 1945. She met her husband Edd during her early childhood and they were married the year she graduated. She and Edd were married for more than 50 years. After marrying, she had 3 children with whom she stayed home until they started school. She then worked in retail sales until her retirement in the late 1980’s. She was a member of the Pine Prairie Freewill Baptist Church. Zelma was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend who adored her family. She was known simply as “Granny or Nanny” to many. Serving as pallbearers are Jay Guerra, Cole McAdams, Cody O’Bannon, Steve O’Bannon, Willie Bell, and Byron Shelley. Honorary pallbearers are Wesley Koehl, Bubba Smith, Matt Hull, Nick Dillard, Kelly Bybe, Wes Grossie, Bill Johnston, Justin Romine, Roger Miller and the elders of Pine Prairie Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral service for Zelma will be Saturday, December 31, 2011; 11 a. m., at Pine Prairie Freewill Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas with Rev. Paul Morris officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday, December 30, 2011 from 5:30-7:30 p. m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville.
