WILLIAM CONNER HENDERSON, JR. 09-01-1957 - 01-08-2019 Preceded in death by his parents - William & Norma Henderson and his oldest brother - Charles Henderson Survived by his loving wife of over 31 years - Moni Henderson two sons - Jason & Jake Henderson three grandchildren - Miette, Max & Oliver Henderson brother - Jimmy Henderson sister - Judy Sahlberg brother (-in-law) - Doug Sahlberg sister - Janice Avant Many nieces & nephews Bill served our country in the United States Army and again with the Department of Justice - Federal Bureau of Prisons from where he retired as Associate Warden in 2004. He worked with The Nakamoto Group for several years and, in June 2015, joined The GEO Group at the Reeves County Detention Center in Pecos, TX. Bill and Moni were proceeding with their well thought out retirement plans. In 2017, they purchased land in Huntsville, TX to build their dream home. Moni and Bernie (the pug) remained in Virginia until May 2018 when she purchased a townhome in Huntsville as temporary housing. The plan was for Bill to join Moni and their precious pug in Huntsville in March, travel for a few months and then begin building their new home. God had other plans for them. Throughout life Bill lived always putting faith and family first. He was deeply devoted to both. Often referred to as a “gentle giant”, to many Bill was a friend and a mentor. He loved his Bureau of Prisons, Nakamoto Group and Pecos families. They were never “co-workers” – each and every individual was a friend that he deeply cared for. Bill and Moni met in 1985 and married in 1987. Both worked for the Department of Justice and enjoyed flourishing careers, several times living apart to achieve their professional goals. They worked as a team and always supported one another. They made time to travel, gather with friends and care for their families. After caring for and ultimately losing both sets of parents (the last in 2016), they began their retirement journey. They referred to the journey as “writing their own book”. To have had the opportunity to at least write the first chapter is now considered a blessing. Par for the course, Bill put Moni first and got her to her beloved state of Texas and settled in what was to be temporary housing. He enthusiastically came home often and they shared wonderful times together, the last being Thanksgiving 2018. Both worked tirelessly on floor plans for their dream home. And they both doted on and catered to Bernie. He was a devoted and absolutely wonderful husband for over 31 years, always strong, dedicated, faithful and ever-so loving. In sum, Bill excelled at everything he did. An outstanding and rewarding career in law enforcement, loved by all who met him and the best husband, partner and friend a gal could ask for. And while family and friends believe he had so much more to do here on earth, God needed a hero and He picked the best of the best.
