Sue Anna Davis

Sue Anna Smith Davis, 93, passed away at Huntsville Memorial Hospital on October 26, 2004. Born in Huntsville on December 19, 1910, Sue Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Davis. She is survived by her brother, Joe Marcus Smith of Huntsville; daughter Suzanne Gillespie of Richardson, and son, Dan Davis and wife, Elsie of Huntsville. Her grandchildren are Shannah Adem and husband, Martin of Alexandria, VA; Marcus Gillespie and wife, Sunisa of Huntsville; Angela Baker and husband, Henry of Richardson, and Jennifer Davis, and fiancé, Howard White of Huntsville. Other family members include great-grandchildren Sarah Levy and husband, Philip James, Bradley Bauer, Clay Hale, Sam Hale, Amber Baker, Thomas Baker, Aaron Gillespie, Asia Gillespie and numerous nieces and nephews. Following graduation from Sam Houston State Teachers College, Sue Anna and Raymond married in 1932. They celebrated seventy-one years of marriage and enjoyed traveling all over the world. Volunteering and helping others was a key element in the life of Sue Anna. Her sense of style was utilized to enhance many public occasions. She served as chairperson of decorations for countless events for the First Christian Church, SHSU, Huntsville Memorial Hospital, the Chamber of Commerce and Christmas on the Square. She was a charter member of the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Women's Forum, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Huntsville Garden Club, and the Tuesday Bridge Club, which existed for many decades. Sue Anna was a gracious Southern lady. She leaves many beautiful memories for her family and friends to cherish. Pallbearers are Martin Adem, Henry Baker, Marcus Gillespie, Philip James Levy, David Smith and Howard White. Funeral Services will be held at First Christian Church of Huntsville at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2004 under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, October 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Huntsville or other charities of your choice.
