Patricia Montgomery

Patricia Lynn Hoke Montgomery, of Richards, Texas, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Monday, August 17, 2026. Pat was the firstborn child of William and Phyllis Hoke, born on September 2, 1938, in Richards, Texas. Pat was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years and the love of her life, Bobby Montgomery, whom she first met in elementary school. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughters, Kimberly Idom and Terri Idom. Pat is survived by her son, Gary Montgomery and his wife, Cindy; her daughters, Gaylynn Idom and her husband, Bud; and Gayle Saffle and her husband, Dave, all of Richards, Texas.. She is also survived by her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly: Nate and Cassandra Saffle of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; Jacob and Ashley Saffle of Richards; Ben Saffle and Sammy Hetrick of Hermiston, Oregon; Zach and Taylor Saffle of New Braunfels, Texas; J.C. and Erica Idom of Richards; and Jamie and Drew Brown of Montgomery. Pat especially loved visits from her great-grandchildren, Noah, Dylan, Cole, Andrew, Brantley, Wyatt, Lucas, Emmy, Elena, and Olivia, who knew her affectionately as “Mawmaw.” She also leaves behind three siblings, Elizabeth Hoke Martin of Montgomery, Gerald Hoke of Franklin, and Randy Hoke of Huntsville. Pat was a spirited soul and a caring woman who ministered to others and faithfully served her church, Union Grove Baptist Church of Richards. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and she and Bobby raised their children in church and in service to others. Pat taught many Sunday School classes, chaperoned youth camps, made countless visits to people in the hospital, and dearly loved her Richards community. Pat worked in education, supporting teachers and administrators, and was a favorite among the students until her retirement in 2000. She and Bobby enjoyed their retirement years together and could often be spotted sitting on the front porch, talking about love and life. Before his passing, wherever you saw Pat, Bobby was usually close by. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church in Richards, Texas.
