Melba Louise Gentry

Melba Ewing Gentry Melba Ewing Gentry passed away at her home in Huntsville Texas on July 10, 2014. Melba was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on April 18, 1935 to D.L. and Della Ewing. She grew up in Hot Springs until she met the love of her life, Paul Gentry. Paul and Melba were married in Durant, Oklahoma in February of 1956. Melba followed her Army Officer husband around the world for the next 26 years. She volunteered in Army hospitals, entertained, and supported him in over 14 locations. The consummate Army wife, Melba not only supported him at home but through two tours in Vietnam. Melba was also an Army mother and grandmother, supporting three generations of her Soldiers (husband, son, and grandson) in combat. Melba was not only a loving wife but very patient mother to two boys, Mike and Don to whom she passed on her love of Jesus and her love of life. Both of her sons grew to fine young men and served their country in the Army. They both appreciate her love and support of them and their families. Melba was preceded in death by her mother and father, Della and DL Ewing and her brothers, Dan “Sonny” Ewing and Charles Ewing. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul Gentry; son Mike and his wife Carolyn of College Station, Texas; and son Don and his wife Patti of Cedar Park, Texas. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ewing Smith of Carrollton, Texas. Melba had 5 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren: Melissa Gentry Knox, and her daughter Gwendolyn Cory Gentry Robby Gentry and wife, Molly, and their daughters Callie and Sadie Candace Gentry O’Hearn and husband Conor and their children Darby, Kyler and Carson Preston Gentry and wife, Christina In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the building fund of Elkins Lake Baptist Church of Huntsville, Texas. The family will receive friends Friday, July 11, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Elkins Lake Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas with interment to follow at Brooke Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas.
