Mary Louise Wright

Mary Louise Underwood Wright, age 90, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 13, 2025. She was born in Brady, TX to parents Jack and Mary Underwood on February 12, 1935. From an early age, Mary helped at her families small roadside stand called Underwood’s Pit Barbeque in the 1940’s. She developed a love of cooking from that and continued to feed her family and church members for years to come. She entered jams and jellies in county fairs and always won First Place. No one could beat her. Mary also crocheted and quilted and entered them into the fair as well and always won the blue ribbon. She had many hobbies and interests in her life but she absolutely loved watching tennis matches. You could always find her watching one on the TV. She had a love for Ham radio, that she affectionately adopted from her husband and even had her own license. She played bridge with her friends regularly and continued up into her late 80’s. Mary was very active in her church, Dorcas Wills Baptist Church in Trinity, TX. Even after she moved to Huntsville, she still drove there, multiple times a week to attend services and cook for her church family. She was a wonderfully talented artist and made ceramics and had quite a collection. Mary was a paper tester at a papermill in Buna, TX for over thirty years and eventually retired from there. She continued to serve in her church and was very active in helping with the children’s ministry and cooking for church events. She loved her family fiercely with all she had, no matter the circumstances. Mary was a stern individual but showed you direction and lessons with love. She is a gem that will be missed by many. Mary is survived by her children Carla Wright and Melissa Nichols (Jerry); grandchildren Dalon Wright, Dr. Orrin Swift (Lauren), Deni Hibbs, Jesse Shook, and Brandon Nichols (Amy); great grandchildren Celes & Terra Swift, Lucas, Faith and Anna Hibbs, and Kimber Nichols. She is also survived by her sister Lou Radley (Rick). She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Mary Underwood, her husband Billy Wright, her daughter Tammy Wright and numerous brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Dorcas Wills Baptist Church in Trinity, TX at 10:00 AM, with memorial services beginning at 11:00 AM.
