Marvin "Gene" Baker

On February 27, 2010 after a long battle with Leukemia, our father/husband went home to be with the Lord at age 69 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born on July 20, 1940 in Trinity, Texas to Eunice and Lillian Baker. After losing his father Eunice, at the age of three months, his mother Lillian married Marshall Neil Roark (PeePaw) who raised Gene in Dodge, Texas. Gene graduated from Huntsville High School in 1958. Gene never met a stranger which enabled him to have a long career as an insurance salesman and also a car salesman owning his own business for 45 years. He retired in 2008 from the car business. He lived his whole life in Huntsville, Texas. He enjoyed traveling. He and his wife Gwynetta are long time members of Second Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. After receiving numerous awards in the insurance business, one being the first to have a million dollar increase in annual sales in 1981 he went on to continue in the insurance business until 1988. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Gwynetta, son Terry Baker of San Antonio, son Steve Baker and wife, Staci of Huntsville, daughter, Beverly (Missy) and husband, Trey Chase of New Braunfels; stepson, Russell and wife Maribeth Bates of Huntsville, and stepson, Heath Bates of Huntsville. Grandchildren, April Malone, Brittni Ventura, Brent Baker, Austin, Bates, Dylan Bates and Kylie Bates; Great Grandchildren, Ryan Malone, and David Ventura. Mother, Lillian Roark, mother-in-law, Dorothy Turner, brother, Lloyd Roark and wife, Mary; sister, Mary Ann Gladden and husband, David; sister, Lou Nell Husfeld and husband, Delbert, sister-in-law, Carolyn Turner, brother-in-law, Rodney Turner and wife, Evelyn and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Eunice Baker and stepfather, Marshall Roark. Services will be hold at Second Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Burial will follow at Farris Cemetery in West Sandy Comm. Visitation will be at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 5:00-8:00pm with Gary Garrison and Jason Bay officiating. Pallbearers are: Robert Ringo, Joe Dale Chick, Ray Twardeski, Bobby Baker, David Newman, Otis Evans, Pete Johnson, Henry Batten, David Gladden and Carl Jefferies.
