Lola Mae Miller Lola Mae Miller departed from this life on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the age of 93 at her home in Huntsville. She was born March 2, 1920 to Ollie and Cora Story, the fifth of five children. She grew up in New Hope, a rural community in Limestone County, and graduated from Donie High School at the age of sixteen. Two years later in 1938 she married Lester Clayton “Bob” Miller. To this union were born two children: Sherrill Glynn and Linda Jane Miller. With the exception of the war years, they lived in Limestone County for the next 61 years, first on a farm and then in Mexia. In addition to her homemaking, she worked at the Mexia State School. She is best known for her devotion to family and her culinary skills, great pies, cakes, and fried chicken, along with her expert sewing and quilting. Following Bob’s death, Lola Mae moved to Huntsville, in 2000 to be near family. Here she spent many mornings quilting at the Senior Center. It was her new “job” and she enjoyed the friends she made there. She was also active in Sunday School and church at First Baptist Church until her declining health made attendance impossible. The life of Lola Mae will be celebrated Wednesday, December 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, David Valentine officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery, Limestone County, Texas at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Alvis Overton “Bill” Story, Rasco R. Story, and William Samuel Story; sister, Lela Bell Rowan; son, Sherrill Miller, daughter-in-law, Jolanda Miller, and grandson Russell Eslick. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Wuensche and husband Richard; grandchildren: Janet West and husband Jon, Dr. Mark C. Eslick and wife Margge, Rob Miller and wife Lori, Debra Miller and husband Rob Curtis. She is also survived by five great- grandchildren, the joy of her old age: Kyle, Wade and Peyton Mae Eslick, Joshua Miller, and Hailey Grace West. The family wishes to express special appreciation to her devoted caregivers who became loved and trusted friends. They include Sheila Hackey, Pam Miller, Joyce Thirdgood, Martha Vasquez and Erica Rivas. Visitation with family will be Wednesday, December 4, 2013, 9:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Huntsville, Texas.
