Kathie Eileen Moore

Long time Montgomery, Texas resident Kathie Moore passed away August 14th in the early morning hours. Kathie is preceded in death by her mother, Edith Moore, her father Prentiss Lee Moore Jr., and her oldest brother, Prentiss Lee Moore III. She is survived by her older brother, James Moore, her niece, Madeline Moore, her sister-in-law, Sheryl Moore, her cousin, Michael McDougal and Michael's sons, Cary and Alan McDougal. Kathie lived a full life and leaves behind many friends. Kathie and her family were well known in the Montgomery area. Her maternal grandparents, Jim and Jewel Askew lived northwest of Dobbin on a ranch before moving to the "city" of Montgomery because Jewel said so. There Jim and Jewel lived until their deaths. It was there Kathie developed her love of animals. There were always dogs, some cats, and horses. She loved riding horses when she was younger. Kathie's parents lived in Montgomery in the same house as the grandparents, as well. They were politically active. Prentiss Lee was a councilman and Edith followed in her father's footsteps as the mayor for several tenures. Kathie was an excellent athlete in the early days. She was uncommonly fast and agile. Kathie was an accomplished skeet shooter. It was well known she could shoot the skeet and the sheet with the best of them. Kathie was forever taking in stray dogs or cats. The idea of them being hungry or without shelter was a thought she could not abide and so did not. One of her proudest moments was graduation day at Sam Houston State University with a bachelors of science in agriculture. Upon graduation, Kathie taught Biology and IPC in area high schools. To those who knew Kathie it is no surprise she always wanted to make a difference in other people's lives and was successful in many ways. Like all of us, it was equally important for her to be a little better each day, and she would work towards that goal. She would say, "Two steps forward and one step back is still progress." Kathie was generous, gregarious, and fun- loving when in her true form. Like her father, she never met a person with whom she could not strike up a conversation. Kathie had many fun and exciting memories with many friends that in normal circumstances would lend themselves to an in person, up close celebration of life. Unfortunately, due to present day realities, the graveside ceremony planned is for family only.
