Joy Dell Roe

Joy Dell Roe of Huntsville, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 9, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born on July 31, 1030 in Dew, Texas. She attended school in Buffalo and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1947, after her family relocated here. Joy worked for the local movie theater while attending high school and Sam Houston Teacher’s College. She met her husband, of 49 years, Neal, while attending college. The couple then moved to Houston, where Neal worked for Mike Persia Chevrolet. While living in Houston, they were blessed with the birth of their two children, Deborah and Nathan. New job opportunities relocated the family back to Huntsville, where Joy Dell worked for the Texas Department of Corrections and Sam Houston State University. Joy, also known as Nanny, was a very special person to all that knew her. She loved her family with all her heart. Joy enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, and great-grandkids. She always put everyone else’s needs ahead of her own. Joy strived to portray a positive attitude in everything she did and lived her life to the fullest. Joy so much enjoyed gathering each month for lunch with her long-time girlfriends, shopping and traveling, but most of all….just loved being with her family. Joy made sure that the whole family went out to celebrate each family member’s birthday. Joy had a special place in her heart for stray cats that were abandoned in her neighborhood and made sure that no cat went unfed. Joy was a member of Wesley Methodist Church, had many friends and will be truly missed by all who knew her. Joy was a trooper and a fighter and fought with everything she had until her last breath. Joy Dell is preceded in death by her husband, Neal, parents Cecil and Ena Eeds and brother Kenneth Clary. She is survived by son & daughter-in-law, Nathan & Mary Roe; daughter & son-in-law, Deborah and Byron Back; grandchildren, Stephanie & husband Erick Moreno; Christopher & wife Bethany Back; LeeAnne Despain; Wesley & wife Morgan Roe. Also surviving are her very precious great-grandchildren Blake, Sophia, Tanner, Corbin, Dayton, Weston and soon-to-be baby Allie Joy. Special thanks to Dr. Kahn for his patience and attention and Rachel and Nathan with STAT Home Health for their care and friendship. Joy always looked forward to their visits. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12th, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, Texas. Services will be held at Monday, July 13th at 2:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, Texas with burial to follow at Addicks Addition Oakwood Cemetery.
