Johnnie Lee Loving

Johnnie Lee Loving, 91, of Huntsville, Texas, passed away on February 21, 2026. She leaves behind a sister, Mary Benson; two daughters, Rhonda Gomez and Debra Coleman; a son-in-law, Oscar Gomez; five grandchildren, Nesi Lee Lillard, Jonathan Coleman, Jessica R. Gomez, Alexander Gomez, and Patrick Gomez; and three great-grandchildren, Viviana Lillard, Koa Gomez Barrios, and Reed Gomez Barrios. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Nesmith Lillard, and son-in-law, Benny Ray Lillard. Johnnie was born on August 17, 1934, in Spur, Texas, the daughter of John Allen Taylor and Lillie Ethyl Davis. Johnnie had three husbands that preceded her in death, Elmer Nesmith, Norman Coleman, and James Curtis Loving. Johnnie’s home was never just her own; it was a gathering place, a refuge with a kitchen that rarely cooled. There was always a fresh pot of coffee ready if someone stopped by, and her food and sweet tea were the kind people still talk about. Feeding people wasn’t just something she did, it was how she loved. If you walked through her door, you were fed, protected, and made to feel like you belonged. If you were sick or down, she was there in an instant with her potato soup that healed everything. Fiercely independent and hardworking, Johnnie built a life defined by grit and grace. She was the owner of her antique shop, The China Closet, and had an eye for history and value. She could pack her van with antiques like a game of Tetris, often taking along her grandkids on treasure finding adventures. Johnnie also loved the outdoors, fishing, and camping, and she was an avid gardener. Her yard was storybook like and filled with plants she collected and nurtured over a lifetime. Johnnie’s legacy lingers in every recipe made by heart, story told around a kitchen table, antique lovingly preserved, flower blooming, and family card game won. She leaves behind a home shaped by strength, and a family forever seasoned by her love. She will be deeply missed and affectionately remembered always. The family would like to thank the staff of Season’s Assisted Living Center in Conroe, especially Jennifer and Tatiana, and her nurses Whitney Hughes and Samantha White with Reliant Home Hospice. Visitation will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 1pm with the Service at 2pm. Dr. Ken Hugghins will officiate. Interment will follow immediately at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery.
