J.E. "Kooter" Galloway

Joseph Earl “Kooter” Galloway passed away on April 9, 2005 in Houston, Texas. He was born on September 7, 1912 to Joseph Isam and Georgia Radford Galloway in Franklin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers and his beloved wife, Mary Elizabeth Long Galloway. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Lee Galloway and Ann Lacy Crain, and by their son and daughter-in-law, James W. Whitehead, lll and Elizabeth Munson Whitehead, all of Houston. Additionally, he is survived by two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Kooter grew up and attended public schools in Sour Lake, Texas. He worked in the oil fields, studied engineering at the University of Houston and was employed in the design department of the Hughes Tool Company during World War ll. In l947 he joined his family in Huntsville, Texas and there he opened a gasoline service station and remained in that business until the age of 85. Mr. Galloway was a true gentleman. He lived life to the fullest by making every day a blessing. He was an enthusiastic story teller and he met no strangers. He was generous with his time and talents. Over the years he was active in many community services in Huntsville including the Little League of which he was one of the founders, the Salvation Army, the Kiwanis Club where he was a Lt. Governor and the Boy Scouts from which he received the Silver Beaver award. His body will be at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville where the family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00pm on Monday, April llth. There will be a private interment in Oakwood Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the First Methodist Church of Huntsville at ll:00am on Tuesday, April 12th. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 2225 North Loop West, Houston, TX 77008 or the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville, 1016 Sam Houston Ave, Huntsville, Texas 77340 or a charity of your choice.
