Ivo Erik Nelson

A celebration of the life of Ivo Erik Nelson who passed away this Friday night. His obituary is below: Ivo Erik Nelson, 34, Huntsville, TX, passed away on September 6, 2019. We called him Erik to avoid confusion because there are 3 Ivo’s living in Sunset Lake (he's the youngest) all within a few houses from each other. So while most of the world knew him as Ivo, we used Erik (or Bubba in the immediate family). Erik is survived by Sally/Mom and Ivo Nelson, his mother Jann Heringer, his sister and brother-in-law Ashley and Ryan Hodges, his sister Austin (Azi) Nelson, his grandfather Ivo A. Nelson and his beloved French Bulldog, Bella. Erik was a master chef who could turn any kitchen pantry into a gourmet meal. He spent years with EMS as a first responder saving lives which transferred into his work at Next Level Urgent Care where he provided patient care for employees of Montgomery County. He was a gifted caregiver because of his huge heart, kind and gentle manner and knowledge of medicine. He loved his job at Next Level and they loved him too. Erik liked to bay fish or do anything outdoors. His truck, a Ford F250 diesel, had a name, “Black Beauty”. He loved his truck, and I know one of the things he liked to do the most was take road trips, listening to music with some "chaw". Erik was a big man with a big heart. Everything about him was big, from his size 13 shoes, to his big truck to his big smile. He had a bold personality that drew you in and once you got to know him, he would capture your heart with his kindness, generosity and empathy. I’m 100% positive that if you were to ask any one of his friends who they would call if they needed help, it would be Erik. They knew he would drop everything to come to the rescue. He was just that kind of friend. He had your back. Erik was plagued for most of his life with a mental health disorder that we recently came to know as Borderline Personality Disorder. His condition was diagnosed by the Menninger Clinic and he did participate in the treatment programs for years. BPD is a new condition that we’re still in the early stages of understanding. Sally and I found solace and camaraderie having attended classes that helped us understand BPD. A celebration of his life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 14, in Huntsville, TX at First Presbyterian Church - 1801 19th Street, Huntsville, TX 77340 - (936) 295-2440.
