Guy V. Locke

Guy Vernon Locke, 84, of Willis, Texas, passed away on August 17, 2024. He was born in Norwich, Kansas on January 02, 1940, to DeLois Buchanan and Murle G. Locke. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret F. Locke (Margie), brother Steve Locke, and Son in law Louis Lowrey. He is survived by his daughters Melissa Lowrey of The Woodlands, TX, Michelle Locke who is married to Richard Anderton of Joshua, TX, granddaughter Elizabeth Conner and partner Anthony Carrillo, and great-grandson Asher Conner of Oklahoma City, OK. Guy spent his early years in Arkansas City where he graduated in 1958 from Arkansas City High School. He graduated Arkansas City Jr College in 1960 with an associate in business. He then attended the Dallas Mortuary School and graduated in 1961. Guy was elected to serve as class president. He was a licensed Funeral director in Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas. Guy met his wife Margie while serving his mortuary apprenticeship in Sedan, Kansas at the hospital where she was a registered nurse. They were married on December 31, 1965. They moved shortly afterward to Hanover, Kansas where they owned and operated a funeral home for nearly 15 years. He was also active in serving his communities as Lions Club member for many years. While his daughters were in school, Guy and Margie served as 4-H leaders both as club sponsors and as project leaders in many different project areas, the girls were interested in everything from Entomology to photography. In 1976, Guy purchased a team of black paint ponies. He presented these ponies in many parades at different festivals in the northern Kansas and southern Nebraska area pulling a red wagon. This was an entry into fulfilling his childhood love of horses. He eventually became a breeder of Pony of the Americas in the early 1980’s. Winning several state futurity awards. Guy served on committees for the national organization of the breed. He was the Texas state club’s treasure for many years. He served as an inspector and volunteer ring crew member at all the horse shows. Guy was in the funeral industry for more than 65 years. He has been recognized by the Texas Funeral Directors association for his service. Guy spent the better part of the last 15 years as a beloved and respected member of the Willis area and the surrounding communities. As a funeral director he helped lead families through one of their most difficult times, bringing peace and closure. These same communities returned like kindness at the passing of his wife Margie. His life will leave a lasting impression on all who worked with and loved him. He will be missed and remembered for kindness and caring for others.
