Grace Elizabeth Miles

Grace Elizabeth “Beth” Miles, 83, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 in Huntsville, Texas. She was born August 15, 1934 in Luling, Texas to James and Dora Mace. Beth was a woman of many talents. She was a published author, an award-winning poet, a pianist, a singer and an artist. Upon marrying George (a fervent SHSU alum), in July, 1984, Beth quickly became an avid supporter of SHSU Athletics and the Alumni Association. Beth’s eloquence and precision in writing grant proposals and her grace and poise in the SHSU Development office facilitated major donations for Sam Houston State University. After her retirement from SHSU, Beth used her talents to assist with fundraising for the Huntsville and New Waverly Libraries as well as the Old Town Theater. Her community involvement also included her beloved friends in her writers Group. She was a long time faithful member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist church and enriched the lives of many members through her founding and lengthy leadership of the SOAR group (Seniors Off And Running) with monthly excursions. She was active in the community choir as well as her church choir and was a participant in the community-wide Journey Through Bethlehem. Beth loved Huntsville and spent countless hours volunteering at the Chamber of Commerce. She was on the hospitality committee welcoming people to Huntsville, going to ribbon-cuttings and helping with special events. She volunteered at the Sam Houston Folk Festival supporting the legacy of Sam and Margaret Houston. Whenever a call came for help within the community, Beth was there lending her expertise with a gracious smile and sense of humor. She will be very missed. Beth is preceded in death by her parents, brother James Mace, infant daughter, Carol and daughter Dawn Cosby Adams. She is survived by her husband George Miles, Jr., sons Randall and wife Janice Cosby, and Russell and wife Michelle Cosby, granddaughter Paisley, step-son Scott and wife Sheri Miles, granddaughter Kathryn and her fiancé Marshall Altom, granddaughter Emily and husband Matt Eberle, great-granddaughter Londyn; sister-in-law Lou Ann Miles; niece Jordan and husband J.R. Carson. Family will receive friends, Tuesday, June 12th from 1-2pm with Service to be held at 2pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, Texas.
