Fred Gibson

Fred Gibson Billy Fred Gibson passed away at home on July 3, 2012 after a brief illness. He went peacefully in the presence of his wife and daughter. He was born to the late William T. and Pauline Gibson on June 5, 1938 in Dallas. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Marianne Rigby Gibson. They were blessed with one daughter, Dana Gibson of Huntsville. He graduated from North Dallas High School in May, 1956. After high school, he attended the University of Colorado before joining the U. S. Marines. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in March 1960. Fred was a certified Texas Peace Officer employed by the City of University Park Police Department. He played for the Dallas Texans as a middle linebacker while employed by the police department. After serving as a police officer, he went to work for State Farm Insurance, but remained a reserve office for the Richardson Police Department for numerous years. He worked for State Farm Insurance Companies for 38 years starting in the claims department and retired after many years as a special investigator for insurance fraud. After retirement, the family moved to Colorado where he, Marianne and Dana enjoyed time hiking, biking, fishing and skiing. He returned to Dallas after five years to care for his parents. He and Marianne lived for a couple of years in San Diego, California to provide support for their daughter when she served as President of National University. He consulted with various police departments during his retirement years. When he moved to Huntsville, he found his true home; he loved the community environment that exists here. He became an active member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the Wesley Foundation Board and a vigorous supporter of Sam Houston State University. He realized a special connection with many students, but most especially the student athletes. He considered himself a Bearkat because of the unique bond with so many people in the community and university. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 6, 2012, 3:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor and friend Scott Dornbush officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., on Friday, July, 6, 2012. He will be interred in Dallas in a private service.
