Fern Marie Friddell

Fern Marie Majors was born on October 29, 1924 in Elgin, Texas. She passed away March 29, 2018 in Montgomery, Texas. Fern grew up in Elgin, Texas with her sister and two brothers. After graduating from Elgin High School in 1943, she continued working at her grandfather’s café until she moved with her mother to Galveston. There she worked as an IBM key punch operator and enjoyed spending time at the beach. Fern met her life long love, Bill in Galveston at a USO dance and they were married on July 16, 1949. A few years after their marriage Fern and Bill started their family. Two children were born in Galveston and two children were born in Amarillo after they moved there in September of 1961. In 1965 they moved to Conroe, with their four children. Fern was a stay-at-home mom taking care of her family and managing the books for her husband’s construction business. Fern was an avid fisherman and artist. When she wasn’t fishing, her passion was all types of painting including tole, ceramic and canvas. Her prized work was using oils for family portraits and bluebonnet scenes. She was a volunteer for Bridgewood Farms, working at the Nearly New Thrift Shop for over forty years. Fern loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watched them often. She was the happiest when surrounded by her entire family. Fern is preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Bill Friddell Sr., her parents Jack and Iva Majors, her brothers Neal and Billy Majors and twin infant grandsons. She leaves behind son Dale Friddell and wife Debbie, daughters Patricia Case and husband Patrick, Dawn McMinn and husband Bobby, Denise Holley and husband Donald, and also her loving sister Joyce Werchan. She will be greatly missed by her ten grandchildren and her five great grandchildren, numerous family members and friends. Thanks to mom’s caregivers Debbie Adams and Pamela Winston. Special thanks to long-time friend and caregiver Morganne Reed. Visitation will be Monday April 2, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis, Texas from 6-8 p.m., with the funeral being held Tuesday April 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Sam Houston Funeral Home, interment will follow at Smith Memorial Park, Willis, Texas.
