Clarene Surratt Hartzo

Clarene Surratt Hartzo, known affectionately as "Mama," entered into eternal rest at the age of 83 on October 5, 2023. She was a beloved daughter, devoted wife, caring sister, loving Mama, cherished Memaw, and a second mother to many who affectionately called her "Mama Hartzo." Clarene was born on October 17 ,1939 in Linden, TX to Robert L. Surratt and Grace O. William Surratt. She married her one true love, Pascal L. Hartzo, on December 23, 1958. Together, they established a residence in Huntsville in 1966 and raised 3 children. Clarene's love for Christ was a guiding light in her life and her faith was source of strength and comfort to those who knew her. She selflessly dedicated herself to caring for many of Huntsville’s children, treating each one as if they were her own. Her daycare became a second home for many, where young minds were nurtured with love, kindness, and compassion. Clarene was a quiet, nurturing, and loving woman. Her fondest memories were the times when the entire family would come together and being surrounded by the laughter and joy of the children, she so cherished. Clarene's legacy is not only one of love and care but also of faith and unwavering devotion. She touched the lives of countless individuals with her warmth and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mrs. Hartzo was predeceased by Parents; Robert Lee Surratt and Grace Odell Williams Surratt Roden, Sister; Jewel Faye Surratt, Beloved husband of 60 years; Pascal Lee Hartzo, and Niece; Linda Brashier Thompson. She is survived by her siblings; Willa “Deanie” Surratt Brashier and daughter Charlene Brashier Schisser, and Melvin “Leon” Surratt. Children; Gary L. Hartzo and wife Stacey Stewart Hartzo, Tony C. Hartzo and wife Debbie Schellenger Hartzo, and Pamela K. Hartzo Place and husband Paul J. Place. Seven grandchildren; Leslie M. Hartzo King, Christopher C. Hartzo and wife Kendra Kinney Hartzo, Jacob A. Hartzo and wife Amanda Hartzo, Devin N. Place Harman and husband Samuel J. Harman, Kelli J. Hartzo Kocurek and husband Jake Kocurek, Christi L. Hartzo, Keena A. Place Salisbury and husband Scott Salisbury. Five Great-Grandchildren; Karlee J. King, Charley K. King, Leighton E.R. Harman, Oliver J. Harman, and Elliot M. Salisbury. In her passing, Clarene leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and a profound impact on the hearts of those she loved. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love, light, and nurturing spirit she brought into the world. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2023 at 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, TX. Graveside Services to celebrate Clarene's life will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Slaughter Cemetery in Rodessa, LA at 2:00 PM.
