Beatrice Clara Wood

Beatrice Clara Wojcik Wood, 92, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 28, 2013 with her children by her side. She was born July 30, 1920 in New Waverly, Tx. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond D. Wood and son Royce Philip Wood; parents Mary and Burnice Wojcik, brothers Walter and Louis Wojcik, nephew Raymond Wojcik and niece Shirley Price. Beatrice is survived by her daughter Norma Reader and husband Glen, daughter Clara Price, daughter Veronica Walker and husband Sam, son Bill Wood and wife Charlotte all of Huntsville. Her grandchildren: Kim Raymond and husband Beaver of Dallas, John W. Hooks and wife Sandy of Huntsville, Julie Dwyer and husband Robert of Washington, D.C., Mike Price and wife DeLisa of Huntsville, Kristie Herring and husband Jabe of Huntsville, Samuel Walker and wife Charity of Huntsville, Amy Kellogg and husband Robbie of St. Louis, Missouri, Lindsay Wood of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Philip Wood of Dallas, Brandon Wood of Huntsville and Bryan Deveney of Huntsville. Her step-grandchildren are Cathy and Charlie Sturrock, Cheryl Reader and Kevin Graulty and their families. She is survived by seven great-grandchildren, Jake and Sally Raymond, Riley, Hailey and Brady Hooks, Bristol Walker and Faith Deveney. She is also survived by her sister Rosa Thumann of Huntsville and a special niece Mary Noack. Beatrice was a devout Catholic. As a child, she attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly, Tx. She moved to Huntsville at age 18 to work for the W. D. McAdams Family. Since there was no Catholic Church, she would attend monthly mass at the Walls Unit, where inmates provided the music. As more Catholic families moved to Huntsville, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church was founded, where Beatrice has been a faithful member. Beatrice was affectionately known to everyone as "Mema" or “Bea”. Family was important to her and her home was the heart of the family where everyone loved to be, especially for the holidays. She was a caregiver for her invalid son, husband and mother. She also raised five children and helped raise eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Beatrice was a pioneer woman. Her grandparents emigrated from Poland to New Waverly to work as sharecroppers. She learned at an early age the meaning of hard work and continued that strong work ethic throughout her life. She and her husband, Raymond opened Huntsville Feed and Farm in 1956. It prospered as a family business for 51 years. She also enjoyed gardening, raising animals and managing properties. The family of Beatrice Wood invites you to share in the celebration of her life. Visitation will be Monday, July 1, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. at Sam Houston Funeral Home with a rosary service to follow at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 2 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Huntsville, Tx . Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery, Huntsville, Tx. Serving as pallbearers are John W. Hooks, Mike Price, Samuel Walker, Philip Wood, Brandon Wood, Bryan Deveney, Beaver Raymond, Robert Dwyer, Jabe Herring and Robbie Kellogg.
