Armando "Mando" Johnson

Armando Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in Huntsville, Texas. Armando "Mando" was born in Laredo, Texas on June 25, 1950 to parents Merced Johnson Sr. and Teresa Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Merced Johnson Sr. and Teresa Johnson, oldest brother, Merced Johnson Jr. , youngest brother Jesus "Jerry" Johnson, brother in law, David Salinas, sister in law, Sandra Guajardo. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maria "Nina" Johnson, his oldest daughter, Sandra Johnson and husband, Bryant Waddell, two children, Ariel (12) and Avery (7). His youngest daughter Amanda Smith and husband, Brandon Smith, two sons Lincoln (9) and Braxton (6). His Sister, Josephine Lopez, brother and wife Judge Salvador & Vicenta Johnson, his brother and wife, Juan & Maria Johnson, his brother Domingo Johnson, his sister and husband, Nora & Isidro Martinez. His brother in law, Pedro Salinas Jr., and sister in law and husband, Patricia and Derek Perales. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who he loved very much. Armando grew up in a small town in south Texas called Mirando City where he met the love of his life "Nina", and loved playing sports all through high school. They left Mirando City and were married in 1975 in San Antonio and soon after settled in Huntsville, Texas where they began their family. He worked in the oil field for many years and ended his career as a welder of twenty plus years. He loved his family and loved to take them on vacations. He was an avid deer hunter and had a love of raising roosters. He and his wife loved to follow high school sports, and loved the Dallas Cowboys. He was the best girl dad and adored all things his girls loved to do. He was so proud of both of them. He spent many hours at his "chicken farm" and traveling to south Texas to work and hunt at the deer lease. His pride and joy were his four grandchildren. He adored his baby girl Ariel and his three grandsons, Lincoln, Avery, and Braxton. He loved taking them on vacation to water parks, the beach, and teaching them how to hunt and fish. He absolutely loved watching them play sports. He was their biggest fan. Many would describe Mando as bigger than life, he had a great personality, loved to laugh, worked hard and made sure you knew he loved you. He will be greatly missed and the memories made will carry on forever in our hearts. A visitation is scheduled for Saturday July 22, 2023 from 1:00pm-2:00pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. A celebration of "Mando's" life will follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home.
