Shirley Ann Dye

Shirley Ann Scott Dye went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of October 20, 2023. She left this earth with open eyes and a smile on her face reassuring us of her peaceful transition into her heavenly home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 5 to 7 PM. The celebration of Shirley’s life will be on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 2:00 PM. Both the visitation and celebration will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park, Huntsville, Texas. Shirley was born on November 27, 1934, in Chandler, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood moving from California, New Mexico, Wyoming, Texas, and finally returning to Oklahoma City where she met and married the love of her life, Eddie Lynn Dye spending 69 years in wedded bliss. Together, they traveled throughout the world spending many summers in their beloved Italy. She was a loving and caring mother to three mischievous children and provided a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for her family. Shirley loved to cook and kept an immaculate house. She filled her days with artistic endeavors, reading, and constructing fun activities for her children such as homemade teepees, doll houses, and making creative snacks. Often, these activities were accompanied with multiple instructions in etiquette and manners. She always strived to put others first and lovingly served them. Her dedication to love and service was evident in the scriptures she underlined and highlighted in her Bible. After raising her children, Shirley worked to achieve her dream of completing her college degree, which she accomplished in 1981. She also worked for Educational Filmstrips writing and publishing numerous filmstrips purchased by schools throughout the United States. Additionally, Shirley was an avid genealogist and thoroughly loved history. Her research led to her discovery that she was kin to the wife of Pleasant Gray, Huntsville’s founder. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as the local chairperson. Shirley was also an active member of the Susanna Wesley Circle of the United Methodist Church. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Rena Scott, her sister Robin Zimmerlee, and her brother James Walter Scott. She is survived by her loving husband, Eddie Dye, daughter Sheri (David) Hopson, daughter Terrie (Steve) Black, and son Alan (Leigh) Dye; grandchildren Anna (Maurizio) Turri, Jonathan Black, Kristi (Paul) O’Donnell, Austin (Lindsey) Hopson, Daniel (Lindsay) Dye, and Rachel (Jeff) Zurbriggen, and 14 great grandchildren. Eddie and the family would like to thank Oasis Hospice, Jean Archie, Linda Samuel, Jasmine Archie, and Cleoniesha Humphrey for their loving care of Shirley over the last several years.
