Robert Sprague

Robert M. Sprague, 78, of Willis, Texas, was born August 20, 1934 in Kansas City, MO to James and Ella Sprague. Bob passed from this life to the next July 15, 2013. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Bob had touched in some small way throughout his memorable life. He gave all such strength and hope that will sorely be missed. He was a true gentleman of utmost honesty, integrity, optimism and patience. He had a beautiful smile, contagious laugh, jovial humor, and a selfless spirit. He loved travel, reading, tennis, poker and played on a semi-pro softball league early in his career. He was a lifetime member of Texas University and religiously followed his college Longhorn football team. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Scherry of 35 years; son Robert Sprague Jr. and wife Rosie, and grandson Daniel Sprague of Dripping Springs, TX; sons John Sprague and Michael Sprague of Houston, TX; stepson, James Bond and wife Laurie, and step grandchildren Jenny and Jessie Bond; stepson Mark Bond and step grandchild Travis Bond and wife Becca and step great grandchildren Lane and Addison Bond, step grandchild Brooke Fleming and husband Chris; stepson Britt Bond and wife Laura; stepson Steven Bond and wife Shannon and step grandchildren Kasie and Stevie Bond; brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Glenda Burgin; and sister-in-law Delores Sprague. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ella Sprague, and his brother Professor James M. Sprague. He graduated from La Porte High School in La Porte, TX Class of 1952 while continuing his education at the University of Texas in Austin, TX, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career at General Dynamics Corp. and advanced quickly to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He took great pride working for Brown & Root, Northrup in Houston where this firm was responsible for the operations at the NASA Complex at Clear Lake. He worked in the Lunar Receiving Laboratory prior to and during APOLLO Mission #’s 11 & 12 as the Engineering Support Group Lead. He worked tirelessly for numerous Civil Engineering firms but his most recent endeavor of eight years was working for Bleyl Engineering of Conroe, TX. He truly loved the challenge of the work and the endearing friendship of John Bleyl and staff. Celebration of his life will be at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 10129 FM 1097 W, Willis, TX on Saturday, July 20, at 10:30 am.
