Joe Roger Hollis, 79, passed away on Monday, Sept 7, 2020 in Taylor Park, Colorado while on vacation with family. Joe was born on April 4, 1941 in Porter, Texas to Burl and Velma (Curry) Hollis. He grew up in Huntsville, Texas attending both Huntsville High School and Sam Houston State. After graduating from college, Joe had a 30 year career with Shell Oil Company working in Information Technology in Houston, Texas where he made many lifelong friends. Joe was blessed with a long retirement and he and his wife Sharon (Jurries) Hollis enjoyed traveling the US and spending time with family and friends. Joe had a love for the outdoors and spent a lot of time at the family property outside of New Waverly where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and managing the land. He enjoyed fishing in Canada and, in fact, made it an annual trip for many years with some of his Shell Oil friends. Joe enjoyed taking money from the casinos and to hear him tell it, the slot machines always treated him right. Over the last few years, he developed a passion for riding ATVs and UTV’s. He enjoyed many trips with friends and family, riding all around Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Colorado. His Polaris RZR was affectionately known as “Pee Wee Herman’s bicycle” due to all of the accessories and gadgets he had added to it. He had a natural talent for all things mechanical and could generally figure out how to fix or repair anything that was broken. Joe is preceded in death by his, wife Sharon (Jurries) Hollis. He is survived by his children, Michael Hollis and Mishelle Ehrig from his marriage to Carol Colburn Roe and their spouses Carol and Eric. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Ashley Graniello and husband Javier, Ryan Hollis, and Mason Ehrig; three great grandchildren, Tristan, Julianna, and Gabriella; and brother, Jerry Hollis and wife Nancy as well as several nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, Texas. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home with Burial immediately following at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas.
