Jane Virginia Christian

Jane Virginia Forshay Christian of Huntsville passed away peacefully August 3, 2009. Born June 17, 1927 in Allendale NJ, Jane was the sixth of eight children born to John Oscar “Jack” and Anna Ruth Ackerson Forshay. Always a nurturer, Jane loved her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In 1983, she fulfilled a long-time aspiration to become a nurse by completing the Joe G. Davis School for Vocational Nursing at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. She worked at Huntsville Memorial Hospital for over 10 years, retiring in 1995 to care for her youngest grandson. Remaining to cherish her memory are children Jane Finney and her husband Thomas of Midway, Kathy Shackelford and her husband Jim of Indianapolis, Indiana, Joanne Smith and her husband Steve of Valparaiso, Indiana, Rich Christian and his wife Amy of Conroe, and John Christian and his wife Karla of Huntsville. Also surviving are grandchildren and great-grandchildren John, Leah, Laurence, David, and Kaylee Finney of Midway; Chris and Erica Hart of Auburn, Indiana; Ginnie Hart of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Charytie, Richard, Brittanie, and Kyle Oliver of Conroe; Tiffanie, John, Daniel, Summer, and Bethanie Massey of Conroe, and Todd Christian of Huntsville. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends also mourn her passing. Preceding her in death was her childhood sweetheart and husband of over 62 years Richard “Dick” Christian. Jane was also predeceased by daughter Patricia Christian; granddaughter Jessica Christian; sister Ethel Ruth “Dolly” Forshay Cooke; and brothers James Martin “Jim” Forshay, Henry Francis “Hank” Forshay, John “Jackie” Forshay, Everett Robert Forshay, John Bush “Buddy” Forshay, and Kenneth Raymond “Ken” Forshay. The family offers their sincerest gratitude to our friends and loved ones for your prayers and support and to Jane’s caregivers: David Prier MD, Michael Chang MD, Srijhansi Adusumilli MD, and the staffs of Park Manor (Conroe), Conroe Regional Medical Center (Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit/Cardiac Care Unit, and fourth floor), Hospice Care of the Southwest, and Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. At her request, Jane’s ashes will be scattered on the beach at Galveston, Texas; the family will celebrate her life in a private gathering.
