October 8, 1931 - March 27, 2022
Gracie was born in Pinedale, Texas on October 8, 1931 to Jim and Altagracia (Gracie) Cortez, later moving to Dodge, Texas where she called home. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1950. Gracie married the love of her life, Zane Harold Dixon in 1951. The timber and cattle industry provided an income for their family as they went on to have four children: Edmond Dixon, deceased at birth, James Dixon and wife, Cheryl, Russell Dixon, deceased, and Mitchell Dixon. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, but so much more! A friend, mentor, mother-figure, cook, prayer warrior, accountant for the family business, the list could go on and on. All of her friends and acquaintances were convinced of her love for the Lord. Gracie showed His love as He commanded to "Love thy neighbor as thyself". She will never be forgotten because of the faith and fearlessness to share it with others. This was very evident as she taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Dodge for 60 years. Gracie was presented the Dodge Homecoming Pioneer Award in 2007. Gracie always portrayed compassion and unconditional love for those whom she encountered. She dearly loved her own children and had a special place in her heart for her "loves of her life", her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always guaranteed a special "performance" or a hide and seek game every visit that was made. These visits always brought her great joy! There was one more love and that was the Houston Astros, in which she never missed a game. Gracie lived through the Great Depression, WW II, in which all three of her brothers survived, washing diapers by hand for three boys, and living off the bounty of the land. Gracie learned to drive in 1967 in order to provide transportation for the boys to be able to participate in athletic events, band, and rodeos, oh, not to mention "wrapping houses" in the village on Halloween. Gracie is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Gracie Cortez, brothers; Jim, Jose', Octavio, sisters; Mildred, Emma, Alicia, Neoma, and Lupe. Husband, Zane and two sons, Edmond and Russell. The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff of Carriage Inn for always being there if the family could not. Visitation service will be held on Thursday, March 31st, at 10am. Funeral service will be at 11am on Thursday, March 31st at First Baptist Church of Dodge. Burial will follow at Dodge Cemetery. Donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Dodge scholarship fund or Carriage Inn benefiting the flower gardens. Memorial condolences may be made to the family at www.shmfh.com.
