Darrel Ray Hunt Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On August 11, 1947, Darrel Ray Hunt was born in Alvin, TX to Ethel Jane Whitson and Layman Homer Hunt. Darrel was raised in Alvin and had a great love for sports and the outdoors. Darrel graduated from Alvin High School and received a scholarship to play basketball at Sam Houston State University. Darrel was a four year letterman at Sam Houston. Upon completing his basketball career and education at Sam Houston, Darrel landed a job with the Texas Department of Transportation. Darrel started at an entry level position and had an amazing 31 year career with the department. Darrel worked diligently and with his hard work ethic, Darrel climbed his way to become an assistant director with TxDot. Darrel made many friends while at TxDot that would last a lifetime. One of the most important things Darrel was so proud of was the way he got to mentor so many people that would come into TxDot, just as he did, and watch them climb through the ranks. One of the best things to happen at TxDot was when Darrel met his wife of 28 plus years, Kathy. Darrel and Kathy have three children, Tami Schroeder, Jill Seale, and Kevin Hunt. Tami, Jill, and Kevin knew the great love Darrel and Kathy had. On March 28, 2020, Kathy, Tami, Jill, and Kevin’s lives would change forever. On that day Darrel suffered a Heart Attack while playing golf in Elkins Lake. Darrel was transported to the hospital and after numerous tests on April 2, 2020 went to be with the Lord. Darrel is preceded in death by his son Nolan David Hunt, mother Ethel Jane Whitson, father Layman Homer Hunt, and grandparents AJ Whitson and Ethel Campbell Whitson. Darrel is survived by his loving wife Kathy Hunt, children Tami Schroeder and Jimmy Schroeder, Kevin Hunt and Ashely Hunt, and Jill Seale, grandchildren Cole, Cosmo, Nolan, Katie, Braxton, Rory, and Phineas.
