Cleatus A. Urick

Cleatus Urick, age 88, passed away on March 19th, 2024. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Urick; daughter Peggy Brock, six grandchildren including John and Cole Brock, Lauren Urick, Austin Urick, Rachel Collins, and Wayne Shepherd, four great grandchildren, and numerous other special nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends. Cleatus was preceded in death by son James Lee Urick and daughter Alice Marie Shepherd, his parents Alice Pearl Frances and Jesse Urick, sister Janette Ricca, and brothers Wayne and Kenneth Urick. Cleatus was born in Carlos, TX on September 1, 1935, and grew up in Bryan, TX. He served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corp before marrying his wife of 68 years, Mary Jane Bush. Cleatus and Mary Jane shared many wonderful and happy years together enjoying their life and their three children and six grandchildren. Dad loved his family and was a leader of his family always there to provide support and wisdom to any of his family who needed him. Special memories and attributes • Cleatus was kind, generous, and caring – always going out of his way to help a friend or family in need. He never hesitated to help when called upon or needed, often mowing his neighbor’s yard if they were not able. • Cleatus had a heart for fun and laughter. He was always ready for a celebration, barbecue with friends and family, a ride on his boat with family aboard, or just visiting with those he loved to include lots of laughter, joking and music. Everyone that met Dad loved him even his nurses and the staff that took care of him so well at Village Care Homes the last year of his life. He always had a smile and a good word to share with all who he surrounded. • Cleatus worked hard to support and provide for his family assuring that all his children attended and completed college, and he passed on his strong work ethic to generations to come. He worked at Dover Elevator in the national sales and service department for 30 years and was very committed to his work. He taught his family to be hardworking and industrious and always fulfill their responsibilities in life and work. No matter what the challenge Cleatus always prevailed and carried forward overcoming all of life’s challenges remaining positive and determined. • Cleatus loved nature and went deer hunting every season with his son, James, who he spent many great years on the deer lease enjoying good friends, the campfire, and exchanging deer stories! • Cleatus shared with his daughter Peggy at the end that he had a full life, that he had no regrets and felt he had lived a great life and was ready to join God. He died in peace with family by his side, but his memory and legacy will be felt for many generations to come. He will always be remembered and loved by all.
