Zacarias "Zack" Barreiro

Zacarias "Zack" Flores Barreiro Zacarias "Zack" Flores Barreiro, 80, went to be with the Lord and to join his daughter Gloria Barreiro Garza on Sunday, December 3, 2006. He was born to Eliseo and Santos Barreiro on November 5, 1926, in McAllen, Texas. Zack attended McAllen High School and furthered his education at Edinburg Jr. College (now UTPA) and graduated from McAllen Business College. He served his country in World War II in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Okinawa and served on numerous ships in the Pacific. After the war, he opened his own leather goods business, Pharr Shoe Repair and Western Wear. He was an active and well respected businessman in the the community for over 50 years. His civic developments include: Pharr Rotary Club, member of the Pharr Industrial Foundation, Director of the Hidalgo County Appraisal Review Board, Chairman of the Inter-American Council of Cities, past Director of the Pharr Chamber of Commerce, American Post Legion 101, McAllen Catholic War Veterans, President of the Helping Hands Club, member of the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge Board, he was also an advisor to Pharr Vocational Schools, served as Director of Crippled Children and Adult Treatment Center. Zack recently moved to Conroe, Texas to be closer to his daughter, Irene and granddaughter, Sylvia. He was a courageous and loving father, grandfather, and brother. We will miss his sense of humor and stories he loved to share with us. He is preceded in death by his daughter Gloria Barreiro Garza and brother Eliseo Barreiro, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe, sisters, Maria Esperanza Garza and Manuela Pena, daughter Irene (Tito), sons, Ruben (Flavia), Abel, Daniel and Noel and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff at Specialty Select Hospital with their special touches of kindness and loving treatment of our dad, Zack Barreiro, in this difficult time. Friends are invited to a memorial service on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, with Father Christopher Terry, Celebrant. There will be a visitation in McAllen, Texas on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Ceballos Funeral Home at 6 pm. On Friday at 10:00 am there will be a mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen, Texas. Interment to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars.
