Walter F. Underwood Walter F. Underwood, age 93, of New Waverly, Texas went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 4, 2005 with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side. Walter was born on June 24, 1912 in Sublime, Texas to Daniel Lafayette and Idell B. Morris Underwood. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier in New Waverly, Texas serving Walker, San Jacinto and Montgomery Counties. He enjoyed farming and ranching throughout his life. Walter served in the United States Army during WWII. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations for 13 months. He received the American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. Walter was a founding and long-time member of the Oakhurst Full Gospel Church in Oakhurst, Texas. He was active as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon for many years. Walter was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose legacy of faith in God and love for his family will endure forever. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Olaf, Monroe and Warren Underwood and a sister Idell Faye Underwood; grandson, Walter Lee Little and granddaughter, Jessica Sagan Poffinbarger. He is survived by the love of his life, Esther Underwood, his wife of 57 years. His children, Donna Little, Dan Underwood and wife, Melanie, Mary Poffinbarger, Patti Smith and husband, Brad. His grandchildren, Mandy Little Dyer and husband Doug, Tyler Little, Brandon Underwood, Kara Underwood Novotny and husband Rob, Autumn Underwood, Alix Poffinbarger, Nicholas Smith and John Henry Smith. His great-grandchildren are Kori, Douglas, Dylan and Bilee Jane Dyer and Emry Taylor Novotny. Visitation with the family will be held at the Sam Houston Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m. The funeral will be held at the Full Gospel Church in Oakhurst, Texas on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 10:a.m, under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hill Cemetery in New Waverly, Texas. Pallbearers are: James Mature, Ermon Underwood, John Underwood, Doug Dyer, Brandon Underwood, Nicholas Smith, John Henry Smith and Tyler Little. Honorary Pallbearers are Ottie Botard, Floyd Hillhouse, Joe Williams, Will Parrish, Melvin Botard, Brad Smith, and Ben Dixon. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support.
