Valerie’s Obit Valerie Ann Hurska lived a life of service. She took care of her demanding mother with loving car for over 30 years while working full time. She never complained! She dealt with her difficult mother with good humor. After two years at the University of Oklahoma, she decided a career as an x-ray technician suited her. She loved it! Her specialty was emergency room and surgical x-ray. She worked for over 40 years in hospitals: St. John’s Catholic Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Browder Health Medical Center in Fr. Lauderdale, Florida; and 25 years between Brackenridge and Seton Northwest Hospitals in Austin, Texas. Some her best friends were those she worked with. Valerie was a rather shy and quiet person until she knew you well. She loved a good story and laughter. She was a focused listener and was fun to be with. Her neighbors in Austin still call asking about her. In her quiet way, she gathered friends to her. She loved our family and was interested in what each doing. She has a soft spot for children and loved to be with them. She used to babysit me until my four brothers became such a handful. She would have been happy with a houseful of her own and was especially understanding with teenagers. Valerie had a special attachment to Ray. He lived with her for a summer while working in Austin. They developed a close friendship. She often told me I had to accept that was part hers. As she grew older, he helped take care of her, visiting often. She died as quietly as she lived. Much too soon for us. She will be greatly missed by all three generations of my family. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 7:00 PM, with a rosary to begin at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in the chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Waverly, Texas. Interment will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Onion Creek Memorial Park in Austin, Texas. Full obituary may be viewed and memorial condolences made to the family at www.shmfh.com.
