Sherry Lynn McKibben

Dr. Sherry Lynn McKibben was born on January 29, 1960, to Violet Reichart Kelley and Clarence Kelley in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska. She was the third of their four children. Dr. McKibben grew up and went to school in Hereford, Texas, where she lived until moving to Huntsville, Texas in August of 1998. Dr. McKibben married her high school sweetheart, David McKibben, in May 1977. They had three children together - Nicole, Cassandra and Jory. Dr. McKibben received her Double Bachelors of Arts degrees in Sociology and Political Science and her Master of Arts degree in Sociology from West Texas A&M University. She went on to receive her Ph.D. in Sociology from Texas A&M University. Afterward, she worked as an Associate professor of Sociology at the University of Texas Permian Basin. and a visiting professor at the University of Houston Clear Lake. She was also employed at Texas Southern University, where she ran statistical data for the university system. Dr. McKibben later went to work for the City of Huntsville Texas where she performed several different duties, but her main job assignment was writing grants for the city, which she was very successful at. Dr. McKibben was also able to help many of the Huntsville residents through her programs she would find funding for. She had a huge heart and would do anything in her power to help a person in need. Dr. McKibben had four grandchildren Brianna McKibben-McNeil, Quynesha McNeil, Shelby McKibben, and Callen McKibben. And great grandchildren Christiana and Cha'Riah McNeil whom she loved dearly. She was often caught bragging about her grandchildren and their activities and accomplishments. Dr. McKibben is proceeded in death by her father, Clarence Kelley, brother, David Kelley, and father-in-law. Warren McKibben. She is survived by her husband of 45 years. David McKibben of Huntsville; her daughters, Nicole McKibben Richard (Mark) of Roanoke, Virginia, and Cassandra McKibben-McNeil (Jermaine) of Huntsville; her son, Jory McKibben (Anne) of Bryan; her sister, Vickie Chaney (Dean) of Gordonville, Texas; her brother, Randy Kelley (Carla) of Lamar, Arkansas; her mother. Violet Reichart Kelley of Hereford, Texas; her mother-in-law, Wanda McKibben of Clovis, New Mexico; her sister-in-law, Jan Wheeler (Orville) of Baytown; her brothers-in-law, Wesley McKibben (Lanelle)of Hereford and Delbert McKibben (Dorothy) of Clovis, New Mexico; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. Memorial condolences to the family may be made at www.shmfh.com.
