Sharon Rhatigan

Sharon Fitzgerald Rhatigan passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, surrounded by family and friends at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, TX. She was 75 years old. She was born on November 2, 1950, in Baytown, TX—the beloved daughter of LV and Willie Evelyn (Archer) Fitzgerald. Most of her childhood was spent in and around Baytown, with summers spent with her grandparents in Riverside. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1969 and went on to study at Baylor University in Waco. Having imagined a career in criminal justice, she continued her studies at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. She quickly determined that a life in criminal justice wasn’t for her, and pivoted to sales, where her natural enthusiasm made her a stand-out. While working at Waterwood National Country Club, she met her husband of nearly 50 years, Steve. He saw her standing across the room, attempting to move a box that was as big as she was. He asked if she needed help; she replied that she most certainly did not. And the rest, as they say, is history. They were married on October 17, 1976 in Riverside, TX at the Riverside Baptist Church. Their daughter, Sarah, was born in 1983, and their son, Sean, soon followed in 1984. With motherhood, Sharon would find her calling. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and created a wonderful and peaceful family home in The Woodlands. She spent those early years volunteering for anything she could: class field trips, PTA, and National Charity League, to name a few. Years of carpools, piano lessons, dance practice, and football games—she was always on the move. After her brother passed away, she took on a new and unexpected role - that of cattle rancher. She embraced the challenges of running a ranch with her usual gusto and determination. Above all things, the role she loved best was that of grandmother - or Fitzie, as she is lovingly called by her granddaughters Emilia and Abigail. They were the light of her life, and she cherished the time they spent together. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Spencer and Bessie Mae Archer; Willie Lee and Fannie Fitzgerald; parents, LV and Willie Evelyn Fitzgerald; her brother, Larry Fitzgerald; along with many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her husband, Steve Rhatigan of The Woodlands, TX; her son, Sean Rhatigan of The Woodlands, TX; her daughter, Sarah Krupinsky, and her husband, Casimir, of Springfield, VT; her granddaughters, Emilia and Abigail Krupinsky, of Springfield, VT; and her cousin, Montyne Clayton, and her husband, Patrick, of Houston, TX; along with many cherished Fitzgerald and Sadler cousins, and a wonderful group of long-time friends. A remembrance service will be held at Riverside Baptist Church on Thursday, August 20, 2026 - visitation is at 10:00 am, the service will begin at 11:00 am.
