Ruby Wright

Ruby Bumgardner Wright, 92, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 in Round Rock, Texas. Ruby was born in Winnfield, Louisiana, July 2, 1921 to Paul Johnson Bumgardner and Della May Hamner Bumgardner. She grew up in Oak Grove, Louisiana. Known for her “can do” spirit and positive attitude, she touched many lives. She often quoted a good neighbor and friend, “do the best you can and then go 'head on” which she lived by, especially in her golden years. Ruby’s life was filled with activity including graduating from Louisiana College in Pineville, teaching school, graduating from a secretarial school in New Orleans qualifying her to become employed by Pan American Airlines in New Orleans where she met her husband Charles, selling World Book encyclopedia, traveling extensively with Charles and their family all over the world, and working in the garden and canning the produce with Charles. She was a member of Eastern Star and a Daughter of the American Revolution. Of all her activities, it is evident that her most valued job was being Charles’ wife, Mom, and MeMaw to her family. Ruby married Charles H. Wright in 1947 in Houston, Texas where their five sons were born. They moved to Willis, Texas in 1969. After Charles’ retiring from Pan Am, both Charles and Ruby taught elementary school in Willis. Ruby and Charles had been married 44 years at his passing in 1992. Her final 6 years she lived in Conroe, Huntsville, and Round Rock. Her children are: John and wife Deborah, Robert and wife Terry, Wayne and wife Beverley, Richard and wife Thuy, Thomas and wife Debra, and “adopted son #6” Joel Diaz and wife Susy. She loved ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Several cousins, nieces and nephews, and long time and new friends treasure her memory. The family thanks Touch of Home care facility and Buckner Hospice in Round Rock for the love and care they gave to Ruby as she was able to stay in familiar surroundings in her last days. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to Waverly Presbyterian Church, 591 Browder Loop West, New Waverly, Texas, 77358, or Waverly Presbyterian Church Cemetery (same address), or to your favorite charity.
