Ruby Sarah Shiver

Ruby Sara Shiver, 88 passed away peacefully at her home in Dobbin on Friday, March 3, 2017 from a long term illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Ethel Legge; her husband of 52 years Harold Shiver and her brother Earl Legge. She is survived by her twin sister Pearl Maicus of Peru, New York, daughter Sharon Hulon and husband Tom of Beaumont, son Don L. Shiver and wife Diann of Madisonville, brother- in- law Bill Shiver and wife Cindy of Spring , sister-in- law Bobbie Legge of Plantersville, four grandchildren, Stephanie Hulon, Matt Hulon, D.L. Shiver ll and Dex Shiver and many nieces and nephews. Ruby was born in Brooklyn, New York December 30, 1928. The family moved about the United States with her fathers work in construction for the government. In 1947 she found herself in Houston working for the Southern Pacific railroad where she met the love of her life Harold Shiver. They were married on June 20, 1949. They moved to Dobbin in 1956 and lived there until going to be with the Lord. In 1964 she went to work for the San Jacinto River Authority as an office assistant. She moved up to office manager and retired from S J R A in 1999. After her retiring she enjoyed working with wood crafts and traveling with her special friends. She was a member of the Montgomery United Methodist Church and very active in church activities. She worked with the church food pantry, folding church bulletins, bible school, bible class, forget- me- nots (cards and notes to those who were ill) and many other activities in the church. She was also a long time member of the Eastern Star She was also a wonderful care giver, taking care of her husband night and day during his battle with cancer which he lost in 2001. The family would like to give special thanks to Ms Gloria and Ms Mary Ann, wonderful friends and care givers, and the nurses and caregivers from hospice, Stacy and Nancy. A memorial service for Ruby will be held at the Montgomery United Methodist Church, 22548 Hwy 105 West, Montgomery, Texas 77356 on Tuesday, March 7th at 3:00 P.M. to celebrate her wonderful life.
