Ruby Juanita Morelock

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The Courage to change the things we can, and the Wisdom to know the difference.” This meaningful prayer was offered daily by our beloved mother and friend, Ruby Juanita Morelock, who began her journey to be home with our Lord and Savior on March 13, 2009. Her joy and laughter will be sorely missed! Ruby Juanita Morelock was born on her parents’ farm in West Sandy Texas on April 24, 1929 to Onnie Lee and Verna Meda Burnet. She was a graduate of Huntsville High School and enjoyed many class reunions after her retirement from Southwestern Bell. In 1950 she married Berna R. Morelock, Jr., her U. S. Marine from Virginia. As a Marine wife she had the opportunity to live in many different places, but in the end returned to her heart’s favorite, Huntsville, Texas, in 1970, where they raised their three daughters. She was a thirty nine year member of Wesley United Methodist Church as well as a devoted gospel music fan. If there was a gospel group nearby, you could find her there with friend on the front row ready to praise God with clapping hands and tapping toes. Ruby Juanita Morelock was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, her parents, and four brothers, Lee Woodrow Burnet, James Wesley Burnet, , Edward Doyle Burnet, and Lloyd Nolan Burnet. She is survived by her three daughters, Pamela K. Colley-Koehl and husband Freddy, Cynthia A. Sorrento-Deville and husband Randy, and Sandra J. Bracken and husband Mark. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren, Travis Colley and wife Virginia, Clayton Colley and wife Rebecca, Seth Bracken, Sean Sorrento and Katherine Sorrento, two great granddaughters and her much loved nieces and nephews. She was blessed to have many close friends, her “running buddies” such as James Allen and Joy Dell Roe along with her church and community friends from SOAR and her monthly Lunch Group. A genuine people person with a keen sense of humor, when it was time for fun, especially road trips, she’d point her finger and say, “Let’s put her in drive!” Visitation will be Sunday, March 15th from 5:00-8:00 pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. Service will also be there the following day, Monday, March 16th at 2:00pm with the Reverend Jerome Brimmage of Cypress United Methodist Church. Internment will follow at Leigh Cemetery in West Sandy, Texas. Our family would like to share our fondest appreciation to all our mother’s wonderful friends. Their prayers and support of her during her battle with cancer were needed and welcomed. We would also like to offer our deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Ella Smither Nursing Home for their loving care of our sweet mom. With a tender heart to all, she would prefer you make a donation to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders us …and let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us.
