Rosa Acker

Rosa Acker was born October 29, 1924 in Pompeii Italy to Giuseppe and Caterina Acanfora and passed away November 21, 2007 in Huntsville Texas. Rosa was one of eight children. In her early adult life she owned her own store making crafts during the night and selling them in a souvenir shop during the day. During World War II she met her husband to be Herman Acker. They were married 45 years prior to his passing in 1990. She was one of many war brides who arrived in the United Stated in 1946. Once upon arrival to the Untied States they moved to Dimmit Texas where they built a home and lived there until 1994. In 1994 she moved to Huntsville to be closer to her daughter and became very involved with the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville through her Sunday school class and other activities through the church. She was a member of the Garden Club of Huntsville as well as other active organizations. Rosa never met a stranger and was always welcomed anyone and everyone into her home. She often expressed her appreciation to her doctors, friends, and caregivers by taking them home made authentic Italian food. As a seamstress she was very talented in being able to take a picture and make a dress. She is survived by her twin children, Alice and Jerry Ellisor, daughter and husband of Huntsville Texas, and Arnold and Sharron Acker, son and wife of Lake Kiowa Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren Colby Oldham, Heather Garrison, Ashley Blakeslee and Andrew Acker, and her great grandchildren Alisa Oldham, Addeline Oldham, and Jack Henry Blakeslee. Also surviving her are Fulvia DeStefano sister of New Jersey, Christina Grimm sister of New Jersey, Amadeo Acanfora brother of Pompeii Italy, and Antonio Acanfora brother of Pompeii Italy. Funeral Service will be Saturday November 24 at 10 am at the First Methodist Church of Huntsville with Reverend Bruce Hay officiating. Burial will be held at 10 am in West Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Dimmit Texas, Monday November 26, 2007. Family will receive friends in Huntsville at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on Friday November 23 from 5pm to 7pm and Sunday evening at Colonial Funeral Home in Dimmit from 5pm to 7pm.
