Ronnie Knighten, Sr.

John Ronald (Ronnie) Knighten SR. On November 6th, 1941 John Ronald (Ronnie) Knighten SR. was born to John Ellis (J.E.) Knighten Jr. and Edna Maragate (Peggy) Sandel Knighten in Huntsville, TX. The first born of twins, he had one brother, Donnie. Ronnie graduated from Huntsville High School in 1960, his proudest accomplishment during high school was being named Tri-Captain to his football team. He was enlisted to the Army Reserves in 1961. Upon serving 6 years in the Army reserves, he enrolled at Sam Houston State University. He married Maude Evelyn Young in 1964 and they had 2 children together. They operated R & M Grocery, a family owned business, for a number of years. Ronnie always enjoyed people stopping in never wanting to pass up the chance to tell a good story. In his life time he had over 30 years of dedication to different law enforcement agencies as a peace officer as well as 35 years of fence building experience, owning Knighten Fence and Patio. Ronnie had a passion for the rodeo industry and his heart and soul was placed into the real athletes of the sport, the bucking bulls. Ronnie was a member of Branded for Christ Cowboy Church in Huntsville, Tx for the past 5 years. He peacefully passed away Wednesday May 18th, 2011, at 69 years of age. He is preceeded in death by his mother and father, J.E. and Peggy Knighten. He is survived by his twin brother, Donnie Knighten and his wife Ruby of Houston, TX his two sons Ron Knighten and his wife Tina of Huntsville, TX and Darrell Knighten and his wife Brandy of Orangefield, TX and his niece Suzanne Knighten of Waller, TX. He was the proud grandfather of 2 boys and 2 girls, Kaylee Knighten of Huntsville, TX, Hagen Knighten of Huntsville, TX, Sheridan Ferguson of Huntsville, TX and Dakota Rogers of Huntsville, TX. Services for Ronnie Knighten will be Saturday, May 28, 2011, 10:30 am at Branded for Christ Cowboy Church, 2954 I-45 N., Huntsville, Tx 77320. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Branded for Christ Cowboy Church in Huntsville, Tx He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
