Rochelle Louise Farris

Rochelle Louise Farris, loving wife, mother and sister passed away on March 22, 2018. Rochelle was born in Delhi, Louisiana on December 23, 1937. She moved to Huntsville at the age of 2 and remained in Huntsville until her passing. She graduated from Huntsville High School . The first time her husband, Maxia saw Rochelle was in the seventh grade. She arrived at school in a big black Buick while he came riding his bike. Maxia thought she was the cutest thing ever. Finally when he was in the tenth grade he asked her out and that was that . On December 23, 1955, at the young age of 18, Rochelle married her high school sweetheart, James Maxia Farris (Max). They have remained a loving, dedicated couple for 62 years. Rochelle, after having her children, returned to school to obtain her Bachelor's Degree and Certifications for Special Education. She taught school for nine years at Aldine School District in Houston,Texas followed by the next sixteen years as a special education teacher in the Huntsville Independent School District.. Rochelle was a faithful member of her church community and was active in many of of the church events. She was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting pewter figurines and music boxes, providing a source of delight for both she and Max. Preceding her in death, was daughter, Shelley Lyne Farris and son,Terry Harold Farris. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Marguerite McCollum. Rochelle is survived by her husband, Maxia Farris, her son and his wife, Troy and Megan Farris, her grandsons, Graham and Ben Farris, sIsters and spouses, Ann and Bill Cox, Penne and Mike Mathews and Marilyn and Dennis Scheffe. Rochelle has numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, she loved and adored her caregiver, Ada Larry. Rochelle was dearly loved and will be missed .The memory of Rochelle will remain in all of our lives forever. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 4 pm to 6 pm, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park Avenue, Huntsville, Texas .77340 Funeral Services will be held at 10 am , March 26, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church at 1016 Sam Houston Avenue, Huntsville, Texas 77340. Burial Services will be at the Farris Cemetary off Highway 1791. Please join us in the procession to the burial site. Lunch will be offered after the burial services at the new Social Hall of the First United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome.
