Robert William Youngblood

Robert William Youngblood, 69, of Huntsville, Texas, passed away unexpectedly in his home on July 1, 2025. He was born on April 29, 1956, in Kirbyville, Texas to Everett and Mary Kathryn Youngblood. Robert graduated from Huntsville High School. He earned a BA degree from Sam Houston State University in Music Education, a MA degree from Sam Houston State University, and a MILS degree from The University of Texas at Austin in Information and Library Sciences. He taught middle school in Livingston ISD for 37 years where he was honored as teacher of the year. After retirement, he moved back to Huntsville, Texas where he resided until his death. Robert loved to travel. He traveled extensively to Europe with his parents and his brother, Richard. He also traveled all over the United States. Robert’s favorite place to travel was Disney World. He visited Disney World over 30 times in his lifetime. He could tell you about many of Disney’s secrets. He loved to visit during all the holiday seasons and when new attractions were unveiled to see the magic of Disney World. Robert also loved to go to our farm in East Texas which was part of a Spanish land grant to his ancestors. It was his peaceful place that held so many family memories. His grandfather built the farmhouse that is still in use there. Nearby is the historical McMahon’s Chapel where his parents were married. Robert spent many happy days on the family farm as he grew up and cherished his time there. Robert’s love for Sam Houston State University and Bearkat Athletics was unbounded. He was a longtime season ticket holder for Bearkat football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball. He rarely missed a home game in any of these sports and traveled to most of the out-of-town games all over the country. You could say he was the ultimate fan. He especially loved the Bearkat men’s basketball team. He often took the players and coaches snack bags full of treats for their away games. Robert bought international players their national flags and hung them on the railing above his seat in the basketball arena. He gave each player his flag when he graduated. Robert loved his family. He traveled to Katy, Texas to visit his two brothers and their families often. He came for holidays often dressed in a holiday costume with treats for his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. They all waited anxiously to see what Uncle Robert was going to bring them. He always brought special treats from Disney World when he returned from a trip there. We know his family was his greatest joy in life. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mary Kathryn Youngblood. He is survived by his brothers, David Youngblood and his wife Terri and Richard Youngblood and his wife Betsy Adams Youngblood all of Katy, Texas, nieces Katie Poland, Kelly Starr (Drew), Julie Fuda (Frank) and nephews Scott Youngblood (Jennifer) and Brent Youngblood (Amy). He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Schmidt Funeral Home in Katy, Texas on Saturday, July 26 at 1:30 pm. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm.
