Richard Clair Peters

Clair Richard Peters (Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend) Clair Richard Peters passed away in Huntsville, Texas, July 15, 2005, after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born November 27, 1930 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Carl Raymond Peters and Dorothy Turner Peters. Richard grew-up in Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Capital Engineering Institute in Washington, DC. In 1948, Richard enlisted and served in the United States Army Security Agency for six years including the Korean Conflict. Richard, his wife, Ellen, and family moved from Rochester, NY to Dallas, Texas in 1964. There he joined the Electronic Data Systems, Corporation. Richard retired from E.D.S. in 1980. He then , became active in church related mission support projects in South American as well as in Texas. Richard was also a supporter of Habitat for Humanity, The Good Shepherd Mission, and Sam Houston State University’s Athletic Department. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed visiting with the coaches and athletes. He was a loyal fan attending games at home as well as “away”. Richard is survived by his wife, Ellen; sons; Steven Peters of North Zulch, and David Peters and wife, Jackie, of Huntsville; three grandchildren; Michael Peters, J.C. Peters and Dalyn Hillman her husband, Scott; one great-grandson Corbin Reat. Other survivors include; sisters, Alberta Corley of Meadville, PA, and Carla Day of Portsmouth, OH.; brothers, Don Peters and wife, Carol , of Aurora, CO., and Wayne Peters and wife, Lyn , of North East, PA.; several nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. Serving as pallbearers are: Everett Mitchell, Hoyte Ridlehuber, Marsh Miller, Brian Swavey, Marsh Miller, Jr., and Don Stringer. Honorary pallbearers include: Guido Bevoni, Vance Howard, Ike O’Bryant, Melvin Nelson, Jr., Sam Burris, Brent Burleson, Bob Carroll, James Gregory and J.J. Head. Friends will be received by the family Friday, July 22, 2005 between six o’clock and 9 o’clock pm at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park Drive, Huntsville. A Memorial Service under the direction of David Valentine, pastor of First Baptist Church , Huntsville, will be conducted at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Black Jack Cemetery, Huntsville, Texas. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor Richard, donations may be made to the University of Texas M. D.
