Reba Faye Herbert

Reba Faye Russell was born in Tye, Texas on July 18, 1923 the youngest child of William Thomas Russell and Willie Edna (Veitch) Russell. She was welcomed home by her siblings Edna May, Bueford, Benford, Cue, Herman, Ray and Vick. On October 5, 1946 she married the love of her life, George Wesley Herbert. They made their home in Houston, where they raised their daughters Karen and Peggy. Reba worked for 20 years in telecommunications for Sears Credit Central and was active in her local and national PBX club, becoming President of the Houston Club. In her free time, she enjoyed oil painting, fishing, cooking delicious chocolate meringue pies and chicken and dumplings. She and George travelled all over the United States, hitting a few casinos along the way. She never passed a race track without making a bet on the ponies. When she and George moved to Huntsville, Reba became an active member of the community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Golden Rule Sunday School class. She thoroughly enjoyed the Newcomer’s Club, Book Review Club and AARP. She loved to entertain and show off her beautiful home and yard. Later in life, she dominated bingo games and the poker tables at her home at Carriage Inn. On July 23, 2015, Reba passed away, going to see the Lord she served so well and her husband George who predeceased her in 1993. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Karen Brasher and husband Tommy of Weimar; daughter Peggy Van Hees and husband Dennis of Huntsville; grandchildren Scott Brasher and partner Keith Goodall of Weimar; Russell Van Hees and wife Whitney of Spring; Kaitlyn Lunsford and husband Don Michael of Huntsville will remember her as their pal Bee-Bow. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Kaydence and Koaltin Lunsford, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Huntsville, 1229 Avenue J, Huntsville, Texas 77340. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 in the chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas. Memorial condolences may be made to the family at www.shmfh.com.
