Priscilla Douglas Bauer

Priscilla Douglas Bauer, born March 5, 1921 – died November 5, 2018. Priscilla Douglas was born on Douglas Mountain, Maine in a cottage at the Douglas Inn on March 5, 1921 to Robert Edward Douglas and Dorothy Boynton Douglas. She died in Conroe, Texas, November 5, 2018, at the age of 97. Priscilla was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Douglas, her sisters, Caroline Steeves and Jean Lombard; her daughter, Valerie Bauer Lynch, and her husband Charles Joseph Bauer, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Charleen Bauer Smith and husband Larry, her sons; Steven Douglas Bauer and wife Beverly, and John Raymond Bauer and wife Caprice. She is also survived by grandchildren Paul Smith, Andrew Smith and wife, Felecia, David Smith and wife Stephanie, Melissa Lynch, Garrett Lynch, Arielle Bauer & husband Greg Fischvogt, Adrienne Bauer Dunham and husband Chris, & Alexandria Bauer; step grandchildren Stacey Baughn Hunt, Christopher McKinley and wife Tanesha, and Michael McKinley. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Cohen and Camden Dunham, A.J., Addison, and Aimee Smith, Jocelyn Puente, Hayden, Kaylyn, and Grace McKinley, Emma and Luke McKinley, and Max Fischvogt. Priscilla graduated from Windham High School in Windham, Maine in 1939 and went on to Nurse’s Training at Maine General Hospital in Portland, Maine. She met her future husband, Charles, at a USO dance in Portland in 1942. They married in November of that year. The next 18 years brought four children and many adventures traveling to the corners of the world as a US Navy family. Ports of call included French Morocco; the Philippine Islands; Norfolk, Virginia; Pensacola, Florida; San Diego, California; Jacksonville, Florida; Maine, and, after Charles retirement, back to Virginia. A second career with NASA finally settled the family in Houston, Texas in 1962. Priscilla finished raising her children and went back to working as a Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in downtown Houston. She and Charles never lost their travel bug as they continued to travel the United States in a succession of tents, pop up campers and cab over campers. They eventually made it to all fifty states. She loved reading, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed the outdoors and birding. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially at Christmas time. She had a knack of making each of her four children feel as if they were an only child. In their retirement years Priscilla and Charlie moved to Stoneham, Texas to be near family. We wish to thank all Priscilla’s friends at Stoneham Methodist Church, at Waldenbrooke Senior Living, at the CHI St. Joseph Manor, and at Heartis, Conroe for the love, friendship, and caring given to her. Visitation will be at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, Texas on Thursday, November 8th from 1 PM to 3 PM with a short service at 3 PM. There will not be a graveside service. Priscilla will be buried with her beloved sailor man, Charles, in Houston National Cemetery.
