Peggy Louise Stinnett

Peggy Fisher Stinnett 1930 – 2015 Peggy Louise Fisher Stinnett passed away peacefully at her home in Huntsville, Texas on July 14, 2015, at the age of 85. She was born June 2, 1930, in Abilene, Texas, to Frank and Margarett Fisher, their only child. During her childhood she lived in several locales in Texas and Louisiana. She graduated from North Dallas High School in 1948 and then attended the University of Texas in Austin, where she met her future husband, John Stinnett. Her love of travel led her to work for Braniff Airlines from 1951 to 1954, which allowed her to enjoy many adventurous trips in the United States, Central and South America. After being fortuitously reconnected with John in 1953, Peggy married the love of her life in Dallas on June 26, 1954. To this union their son Reid was born in 1958 and daughter Gena in 1965. While raising her children, she also worked as a part-time dental assistant to her husband. She earned her real estate broker’s license in the early 1970’s, and worked for Henry S. Miller and later for Virginia Cook Realtors in Dallas. She returned to work part-time for Braniff in the mid-1970’s and was a proud member of the “Clipped B’s”, their alumni association. In 1973, the family moved to what was then the Panama Canal Zone in Central America. She assisted her husband in dentistry there until the family moved back to the United States in 1983, settling in Huntsville, Texas. She continued her dental assistant career with the Texas Department of Corrections until her retirement in 1995. Peggy was very outgoing and made friends easily. Her smile and laugh were infectious and she cared very much about other people. She loved talking and “visiting” and had many longtime and lifelong friends. She took great delight in cooking, especially baking treasured family recipes. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, reading, playing bridge, watching football (especially the Dallas Cowboys) and was very well known for her love of shopping! Peggy was a Christian and a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville. The Stinnett family would like to thank the church family for their love and support. The family would also like to thank Peggy’s caregivers over the past few years, whose compassionate aid was greatly appreciated – Ilysia, Jasmine, Jayette, Jean, Nika, Rocksanne, Teresa and Tasheika. In addition to her husband of 61 years, John Stinnett, Peggy is survived by her son Reid, his wife Sarah and their children, Graham and Paige; daughter Gena Lloyd and her husband James and their children, Jessica and Berik; along with several cousins and their extended families. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park Drive in Huntsville, Texas. A life celebration will be held on Friday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1016 Sam Houston Avenue in Huntsville. Burial will be on July 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gatesville City Cemetery, Gatesville, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
