Peggy Pruett Phillips

Peggy Pruett Phillips, 86, entered into the presence of Jesus, September 2, 2022 at her home in Old Waverly, TX. She was born October 16, 1935 in Madisonville, TX to Deannie Pinkney and Elvie Marie Pruett. As the baby of the family, with older sisters, Marie and Lucille and brother Buddy, Peggy grew up in Madisonville and Houston, TX where she loved going to nickel movies all day. She loved her Dr. Pepper, hamburgers and junk (comfort) foods. She loved all dogs, but raised a variety of blonde-haired chihuahuas, Angel, Junior, Mij, Lulu, Choicy and TinkerBell. Neighborhood dogs adopted her and she made sure they were all well fed and loved. Peggy married Billy Jim Phillips two days after her 18th birthday and lived in Bedias, TX. They had children Terry, Jimmy and Lori. They lived in a variety of places to include Madisonville, Bedias, Huntsville, Crockett and Old Waverly, TX. Peggy worked in the typing pool at TDCJ in Huntsville, TX, as Tax Assessor in New Waverly, TX, owned a lingerie store in Huntsville and worked at Toys Unlimited and Perfumania. She loved people and loved to visit! Peggy taught infant and children Sunday school for over 50 years and hosted a large Easter Egg hunt each year with many prizes, which she received so much joy! Peggy loved her two grandchildren, John Michael and Finn as her own. She quickly adjusted her schedule to be their primary care when their parents worked. She never wanted her grands to go to daycare. They were truly her Joy! Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Lana Christine, sisters Marie Piegler, Lucille Turner and brother Buddy Pruett. She is survived by her children Terry Slattery (Herb), Jimmy Phillips (Freida), and Lori Logan; grandchildren John Michael Logan (Rebecca), Finn Phillips; Step-grandson, Tony Slattery; Great-grandson John Henry Logan and a host of nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in laws, best friend, Geneva Cooney and other life-long friends, beauty shop and church family. Service is Monday, September 19th 3pm at Waverly Presbyterian Church, Old Waverly, TX with meal following service. Interment at 5:30pm at Old Waverly Cemetery. Family will receive friends, Sunday, Sept. 18th, 4-7pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, Huntsville, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Waverly Presbyterian Church Children's Ministry or an Animal Shelter of your choice.
