Pamela June Fillio-Slaughter "PJ"

Pamela June Slaughter, aka “PJ” was born May 22, 1956 at home in Lee, Massachusetts to Bettye and Raymond Fillio. She was raised in the beautiful mountains of Otis, MA where she discovered her love of snow skiing and the outdoors. She graduated from Lee High School in 1974 and then moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico where she worked as a ski instructor. It was there she married John Shirey of Dallas, TX and their daughter, Hollie Shirey was born. She and John remained close friends over the decades and always spoke fondly and with love for each other. John says she is one of the strongest, hardest-working people he has ever known. He says she was always doing something, and always happy. PJ had very special relationships with John’s late parents, John and Sue, and his sister Nancy, filled with mutual love and respect. PJ worked many years in factories, like Case IH in Greenville, TX, where her tenacity and fierce strength proved that women can be successful in non-traditional roles. In 1985, she moved to Quinlan, TX when she married Peyton Slaughter, a bass fishing guide. Peyton and PJ were married for 20 years and raised Hollie Shirey and David Slaughter, Peyton’s son. She enjoyed water skiing and entertaining guests at their home on the lake. Peyton and PJ rekindled their friendship over the last decade and always had a lot of love for each other. David states that he has always loved her and appreciated her kindness toward him. In 1988, PJ decided to accomplish a lifelong dream of obtaining a higher education by attending college and graduating in 1992 with a degree in POLS from Texas A&M University of Commerce. While working and raising a child, she graduated summa cum laude and received many other awards during her studies. Her degree still sits proudly in her home with family pictures. In 1996, she met Jerry Naill while working with him at Quinlan Mobile Homes. Jerry is a musician and actor and they became very close. Later, they moved to be close to each other in the Houston area. They spent many years traveling together and keeping each other company. Jerry refers to her as the love of his life and the most honest person he has ever met. In her true caring nature, PJ looked at Jerry’s children Shonda, Michelle and Shea and grandchildren with fondness. They think of PJ like a mother and grandmother to them. She loved and remembered Jerry’s son Brandon, and Jerry’s former wife, Vikki who have passed. PJ never met a stranger and loved helping others. Countless stories have been told of her amazing cooking skills, gifting others with her beautiful meticulously hand-crafted items, and always willing to lend a helping hand. She was tenacious, hard-working and could do anything she put her mind to. She was honest and loyal. Her dear friends Claire Butterly and Vicky Burns tell stories of her kind heart toward neighbors and animals, including the time PJ slept outside in the cold all night to comfort a donkey stuck in quick sand. They tell of most days where they would sit and talk for hours. PJ’s attention to detail and organizational skills served her well in the title industry and as an accounting assistant. She loved helping people close on their homes and properties. She made many friends in her jobs over the years. Her friend Robin Mayes tells of a time she learned Robin’s mother was learning to love gardening as much as she did, so she met her at Home Depot And bought her some gardening supplies and they shared laughs and stories. She loved rock and roll music, and being outdoors. She loved plants and always had aloe Vera in a pot in her home. She loved natural healing and cooking for friends and family. She is preceded in death by her father, Raymond and survived by her daughter, Hollie Shirey, and three siblings: sister Joanne Smith, her husband Jerry and children Laurie Rock, Renee Perotti and Brandon Smith; sister Deborah Moretz, her husband Ben and son Raymond; brother Ronald Fillio and sons Kristoffer and Nicholas. PJ is also survived by her aunt Judy Wood and uncle George Hadley and many friends. They will carry her legacy of kindness and love forward with fond remembrance of her.
