Opal Katherine Fisher

Opal Katherine Owen (Hardy) Fisher left this earth on October 8, 2017. Opal was born March 30, 1923, in New Waverly, Texas to Richard E. Owen and Coma G. Arnold. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1940 after which she went to work for Houston Natural Gas eventually retiring from Enron. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Cecil, CT, Leslie, Jim, and Pete and sister Lela; and nephews Allen and Curtis. She is survived by nieces Debbie Hensarling and husband, David and Kathy Boudreaux and husband Mike; nephews Ricky Owens and wife, Theresa and Ronnie Owens and wife, Lori. She celebrated the lives of numerous great nieces and nephews as well as a number of great-great nieces and nephews Opal was a kind, loving, selfless person. She was a living example of unconditional love. She had a way about her that could make you feel as though you were the most important person in the room and a look that made you strive to be that person. While she had no children of her own, she played a vital role in the “raising” of many. She loved the Lord and made sure her nieces and nephews were properly introduced to Him, whether they wanted to be or not. Opal’s family meant everything to her. She loved everyone coming together for holidays, big meals, or a mean game of dominoes. At every gathering there was always food, fun, laughter, and stories. She enjoyed taking care of others. Even into her eighties she would talk about taking a meal to one of the “little old ladies” at the church. At each phase of her life, she lived life to the fullest. She faced each challenge with the graceful fierceness of a lioness and the gentleness of lamb. She never let the circumstances of life get her down. She never complained. She was the epitome of grace and humility at all times. She is dearly loved and will be so missed. A viewing will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, TX at 9:00AM on Saturday, October 14, 2017. There will be a chapel service at 10:00AM followed by a graveside service at East Sandy Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Opal’s life. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, you contribute to the Alzheimer Association at ALZ.org.
