Oma L. Bennett

Oma L. Gant Bennett went to be with our Lord and Savior at the age of 98 years on December 8, 2016 in Huntsville, Texas. She was born in Caldwell County, Texas on February 21, 1918 to John Thomas and Ida Moore Gant. She is preceded in death by her husband, James E. Bennett, her parents, sisters; Maggie Gant Caraway, Inez Gant Heathcock, brothers, Alvin Gant, Thomas Gant (Louella) and J.B. Gant (Gladys). Survivors include her nieces and their husbands, GayAnn and Bill Herring of Devine, Texas; Denise and Terry Vogler of Huntsville, Texas; nieces: Elaine Heathcock of Devine, Texas, Robbi Jo Powell of Hagerman, New Mexico; great-nieces and nephews: Ted and Chandra Herring of San Antonio, Texas, Debbie and Reagan Wagner of Lytle, Texas, Kayla and Trent Marrou of Georgetown, Texas, Shanna and Todd Hollis of Huntsville, Texas, Davin and Carrie Vogler of Georgetown, Texas Gay Lynn and Walter Wall, Yvonne and John Fox of Fredericksburg, Glenda and Raymond Mott of Eagle River, Alaska, Ricky and Carla Gant of Kerrville, Texas, Lori Jo Pate of Lockhart, Texas, Mark Caraway of Austin, Texas and Bonnie Beth Brymer Meza of Houston, Texas; and great-great nieces and nephews: Ryder Herring and Parker Herring of San Antonio, Texas, Rylan Wagner, Robert Lane Wagner, Addison Wagner of Lytle, Texas, Jillian Marrou of Georgetown, Texas, Lela Hollis, Jenna Hollis and Kyla Hollis of Huntsville, Texas, and Micah Vogler, Cammie Vogler and Jarrett Vogler of Georgetown, Texas. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews on the Bennett side of the family including Charlotte Bennett Leitschuh of Fort Worth, Texas and Mike Bennett from Houston, Texas. Oma and James married in September 1950, after a couple of years they moved to Arizona (Phoenix) where they made their home for the next 30+ years. She was a homemaker and caretaker of children for many years. Oma and James were faithful members of North Phoenix Baptist Church. They loved to travel and were in all the states except Hawaii! In 1982 they moved to Salmon, Idaho where they enjoyed camping and fishing on the Salmon River. They were instrumental in helping to establish a Baptist Church in Salmon where they made life-long friends. In 1988 they moved back to Arizona (Cottonwood) where they stayed until January 2009 when they moved to Huntsville, Texas. There will be a graveside service on December 19, 2016 at 1:30 pm in the McNeil Cemetery near Luling, Texas. The family would like to thank the staff at Creekside Nursing Home for the care given to her over the past 8 years. We also would like to say thank you to all our family, church family (Second Baptist Church of Huntsville and First Baptist Church of Devine) and friends who have prayed for our aunt and uncle over the past 8 years.
