Naomi Corley

Naomi Jane Edwards Corley, 81, of Huntsville went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2006. She died in a Houston hospital due to complications from diabetes. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her death. Naomi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She was born April 22, 1925 in Ashland, Ohio to Shelby and Olive Edwards. Naomi graduated from Ashland High School and attended Ohio State University and Sam Houston State University. Naomi loved the Lord and was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Huntsville. Before her failing health, she was active in the community. She worked with the Welcome Wagon Program for the City of Huntsville and also owned and operated Southern Beat Signing Telegram and Balloon Services. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Zeta Sorority Alumni, Sam Houston State University Faculty Wives and Huntsville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years (married April 28, 1944), Laurence Lester “Larry” Corley; her parents Shelby James Edwards and Olive Lucille Matthews Edwards; brothers Richard Edwards and Shelby Edwards Jr., and sisters Marilyn Edwards Deucher and Elaine Edwards Buckway. Naomi is survived by her daughter, Sandra Corley Nichols of Angleton, Texas; son, Laurence Lester Corley, Jr. and wife Marsha Tollett Corley of Conroe, Texas; daughter, Pamela Corley Griffin and husband Brian Dale Griffin of Katy, Texas; and daughter Kimberly Corley Sutton of Frisco, Texas. Surviving grandchildren include Kelly Nichols Russell and Margaret Nichols of Angleton, Texas; Melanie Corley, Matthew Corley, Marilee Corley and Meghan Corley of Conroe, Texas, Garrett Griffin of Dallas, Texas, Dallas Griffin of Austin, Texas, Christopher Sutton of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Michael Sutton of Frisco, Texas. Great grandchildren include Michael Gifford, Ricky Nichols and Madison Russell, all of Angleton, Texas; brother John Edwards and wife Peggy of Ashland, Ohio, brother Bill Edwards and wife Laurie of Urbana, Ohio, sister Jackie Schuttera of Ashland, Ohio, sister Nancy Thomas and husband Travis of Euless, Texas and Bob Edwards and wife Connie of Ashland, Ohio. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Winifred Grivich, Rose Peck and Ruth Closs of Madison County, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 21, 2006 at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville with the Reverend Bruce Hay officiating. Interment will follow at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, August 20, 2006, from 5 - 7 p.m. All services are under the direction of the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
