Myrna Nettles Davis October 10, 1936 – August 19, 2026 Myrna Nettles Davis, lovingly known to her family as “Nanny,” passed away peacefully at home in Huntsville, Texas, on August 19, 2026, at the age of 89. Myrna was born on October 10, 1936, in Raymond, New Hampshire. She spent many years of her life in Florida before eventually making her home in Texas. Myrna’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She became a Christian as a little girl, and her love for the Lord remained steadfast throughout her lifetime. She loved church, studying God’s Word, singing in the choir, and sharing her faith with others. Through years of ministry, Bible studies, Christian counseling, and simply taking the time to speak with people who needed encouragement or guidance, Myrna helped lead hundreds of people to Christ. Sharing His love was not simply something she did—it was how she lived. God also blessed Myrna with an extraordinary gift for music. A natural-born singer, she participated in choir throughout her school years and was asked to sing at her high school graduation. Her beautiful voice continued to be part of her life for decades. She sang at weddings, special gatherings and, while the family was stationed in Germany, at the NCO Club. Her voice was one that could turn heads, but for those who loved her, it became one of the unmistakable sounds of home and family. Throughout her life, Myrna wore many hats. Before raising her family, she worked as a receptionist at a milk-processing company and later held a job at Dukes & Ayres. She earned her beauty license but never pursued cosmetology professionally—although that didn’t stop her from becoming the unofficial beautician for her children, family, and friends, cutting countless heads of hair over the years. Myrna was also a talented seamstress who operated her own sewing business and sewed for the public. She loved working with her hands, whether sewing for others or creating afghans for the people she loved. So very often she made clothing for her grandchildren and a few special occasions she made banquet and prom dresses for her granddaughter. Yet among all the different roles she held, some of the most meaningful years of her life were spent as a stay-at-home mother, caring for her family while continuing to study Scripture and serve the Lord. Her heart for ministry extended beyond the walls of the church. She was involved in jail ministry and dedicated herself to reaching people who needed hope, compassion, and the message of Christ. She had a gift for listening without judgment and offering thoughtful, Christ-centered counsel. Many people were blessed by her wisdom, prayers, encouragement, and genuine concern for their lives. Among those she loved most was her husband, William Cecil Davis. Myrna and William shared 63 years of marriage, building a life together through many seasons and places. Her devotion to him was evident throughout their marriage, and she loved and cared for him deeply. Myrna was preceded in death by her children, Mark, Glen, and Sissy. She is survived by her devoted husband, William Cecil Davis; her children, Renee, Michael, Wesley, and Jody; her sister, Sandra Brumlow; and her brother, Ronnie Nettles and his wife, Gala. Her legacy continues through the many generations of family she loved so dearly, including numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as great-great-grandchildren and the generations that followed. Each generation carries with it a piece of the family and faith that meant so much to her. Outside of ministry, music, and sewing, Myrna enjoyed cooking for those she loved, working puzzles, and playing cards. She was known for her beautiful smile, her caring heart, her wisdom, and her ability to make people feel loved and heard. To know Myrna was to know how deeply she loved—her Lord, her husband, her family, and the people God placed in her path. Her family will remember the sound of her beautiful singing voice, the things she created with her hands, the wisdom she freely shared, and the faith she lived every day. Her greatest legacy, however, can be found in the lives she touched and the countless seeds of faith she planted along the way. While her family grieves the loss of their beloved Nanny, they find comfort in the very faith she spent her lifetime sharing with others: that she is now in the presence of the Savior she loved and served so faithfully. A memorial service celebrating Myrna’s life will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Sam Houston Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas at 4:00 PM.
