Miriam Lois Slack

Miriam Lois Slack May 28, 1919—Oct 13, 2011 Miriam Lois Slack, age 92, passed from this life on October 13, 2011, in Huntsville, Texas. The 5th of 6 children of Arthur and Edith Cordrey, she was born in Rushsylvania, Ohio, on May 28, 1919, helped her parents on the farm and graduated from Rushsylvania High School. After marrying, she moved to the Marion, Ohio, area and lived there most of her adult life. She was active in the Green Camp United Methodist Church, preserved fruits and vegetables from her large garden, sewed clothes for her children and grandchildren, worked at J.C. Penney in Marion after rearing her two children, and treasured her close relationships with the Slack and Cordrey families. In 2001, she moved to Huntsville, TX, to be near her daughter. She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John W. Slack and their son William J. Slack; her brothers and their wives Walter and Vadah Cordrey, Ralph Cordrey, Lawrence and Ellen Cordrey, and Gerald and Myrtle Cordrey; and brothers-in-law Franklin Slack, and Wellington Slack and his wife Mary. She is survived by her daughter Roberta Krock and son-in-law Kenneth Krock of Huntsville, TX; grandson Kevin Slack of Cincinnati; granddaughters Karen Krock of New Orleans and Cortney Slack Davis of Delaware, OH; and great-grandchildren Sean and Jessie Davis. Also surviving are sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Jim Barger of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; sister-in-law Hazel Cordrey of Springfield, OH, sister-in-law Vernetta Slack of Dayton, OH, numerous nieces and nephews, and long-time neighbor and friend Jean LeVeck of Marion, OH. The family would like to thank those that provided care for “Ms Lois” during her Huntsville years—the friends and staff at the Carriage Inn, nurses and caregivers at the Ella Smither Geriatric Center, Dr David Ficklen and Dr Karen Olson, and Lynn and Dennis Longmire of the Angel Kissed Private Care Home who provided the loving and peaceful atmosphere for her final six months with caregivers Sylvia Ormeno, Sol Rameriz and Elsa Baiza. Graveside services will be held at the Marion (OH) Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 with Pastor Mandy Rice, of the Green Camp (OH) United Methodist Church officiating.
